Rangers 3 Celtic 3

In a high scoring game the young Rangers side were ahead twice and then fell behind before levelling the game up.

Celtic had two early chances with keeper Jack McConnell coming to Rangers rescue on both occasions. On five minutes Celtic attacked on the right and their winger went past Kelsey Ewan and in to the box with Jack McConnell blocking the shot with his foot. Two minutes later another attack on the right and when the ball was passed inside Jack McConnell made a superb point blank save.

Rangers first effort on goal came in the twenty-fourth minute, the attack was created on the right and when Jack Harkness passed inside Robbie Fraser’s shot from the edge of the box was saved low to his left by the keeper. Just after the half-hour Celtic threatened on a couple of occasions. The first came from an attack on the right and a cut back that forced Jack McConnell to save low to his right. A minute later Jack McConnell was called in to action again, saving a shot from inside the right side of the penalty area then combining with Kelsey Ewan to keep out the rebound.

Rangers replied with an attack on the left, Alex Lowry sending Robbie Fraser down the wing and he flashed a ball across the six yard box with no takers. Rangers took the lead seven minutes before half time, Charlie Lindsay passed to Alex Lowry on the left and his low cross from the byline broke back to the midfielder who fired into the net from inside the six yard box. The sides were level five minutes later, again it was on Celtic’s right where the danger was coming from, their winger progressed along the byline before finding the net from a very tight angle.

Half-Time:- Rangers 1 Celtic 1

The second half was only four minutes old when Rangers regained their lead, Charlie Lindsay won possession and released Ross McCausland inside the right side of the box and he passed the ball across the keeper into the net. The lead barely lasted two minutes, Rangers struggled to clear a corner from the left, Jack McConnell touched a point blank effort on to the bar but was helpless as the rebound was fired into the net.

Just before the hour a superb turn from Alex Lowry on the halfway line allowed him to release Robbie Fraser breaking forward on the left, he passed to Tony Weston inside the penalty area but he saw his shot saved. With twelve minutes remaining Celtic took the lead for the first time in the game. From a run and cross on the left the ball was volleyed past Jack McConnell at the back post.

Once again the sides were level within in minutes, on this occasion four. The referee judged Alex Lowry was fouled on the edge of the box and central, he stepped up to give the keeper absolutely no chance as he fired the ball into his top left hand corner. Rangers had a chance to win it with two minutes left on the clock, Alex Lowry’s ball over the top found Ross McCausland inside the left side of the box and he lobbed the keeper but the ball went across the face of goal.

Tyler Pasnik who came on as a very late sub picked up two injury time yellows and a subsequent red card.
