Academy Loan Players Midweek 30th March 2021

To summarise we had eleven players in the squads of seven clubs tonight.

Five played ninety minutes, two got reasonable game time (twenty minutes or more),one came on for a cameo  appearance and three were unused subs.

There were six games, with one game having an Academy loan player in each team. There were four on the winning side, six on the losing side and one whose team drew.

Scottish Championship

Raith Rovers 5 Dunfermline Athletic 1

Kai Kennedy definitely won the bragging rights over Lewis Mayo even though the latter had twenty minutes more than Kai’s seventy (replaced by Dylan Tait) on the pitch

Scottish League 1

Montrose 3 East Fife 1

Cole McKinnon remained on the East Fife bench.

Partick Thistle 2 Forfar Athletic 2

Kieran Wright was an unused sub for Partick Thistle.

Peterhead 0 Clyde 2

Jack Thomson lasted to the break before being replaced by Craig Howie, Kane Ritchie-Hosler got a seven minute cameo coming on for Ally Love. Zac Butterworth was an unused sub.

Scottish League 3

Brechin City 1 Elgin City 2

Although on the losing side the three Rangers players at Brechin, Harris O’Connor, Adam Devine and Chris McKee all played ninety minutes.

Cowdenbeath 1 Edinburgh City 3

Nicky Hogarth continues to hold down the keeper’s spot at Cowdenbeath with another ninety minutes.

To summarise we had nineteen players in the squads of fourteen clubs. Seven played ninety minutes, five got reasonable game time (twenty minutes or more), two cameo appearances and five were unused subs. Scottish Championship

Alloa Athletic 2 Ayr United 2

An eventful day for Jamie Barjonas and a few former Rangers Academy players in the Ayr squad. Jamie replaced former ‘Ger Andy Murdoch on seventy-one minutes and was replaced himself by another former Academy player Michael Hewitt in Injury time.

Yet another former Rangers Academy player Tom Walsh scored Ayr’s first goal.

Hearts 2 Queen of the South 3

It was a good day for the Rangers contingent at Queens, ninety minutes for James Maxwell, Rhys Breen & Ciaran Dickson while Dapo Mebude got a thirteen minute cameo replacing Stephen Dobbie who I first seen in a Rangers side almost twenty-four years ago !!

Inverness CT 1 Arbroath 0

He may have been on the losing side but Ben Williamson played eighty-one minutes before being replaced by Mark Whatley.

Arron Lyall was an unused sub for Inverness CT

Raith Rovers 1 Morton 0

Kai Kennedy was an unused sub as Raith edged out Morton

Dundee 3 Dunfermline Athletic 2

Despite playing the full ninety minutes it was a disappointment for Lewis Mayo his Dunfermline side raced to an early two goal lead, but Dundee turned it around with three goals to secure the points.

Football League 2

Harrogate Town 0 Southend United 1

A defeat for Josh McPake but seventy-two minutes on the pitch before being replaced by Edward Francis.

Scottish League 1

Airdrie 2 Partick Thistle 4

In a high scoring game at The Excelsior Stadium Kieran Wright was between the sticks for the full ninety minutes for Partick Thistle.

East Fife 0 Cove Rangers 0

Goalless at New Bayview and zero game time for Cole McKinnon as he remained on the bench.

Forfar Athletic 0 Falkirk 2

Unused sub was also the status for Kyle McClelland for Falkirk, whose first goal was scored by former Academy player Charlie Telfer.

Montrose 2 Clyde 2

A share of the spoils and a welcome ninety minutes for Jack Thomson at Clyde.

Scottish League 2

Albion Rovers 1 Annan Athletic 1

Brian Kinnear remained on the bench for Annan Athletic at Albion Rovers for whom former Academy player Sam Jamieson grabbed an injury time leveller.

Brechin City 0 Queens Park 2

Another difficult day for Rangers loanees at Brechin, Harris O’Connor started and was replaced by Adam Devine with seven minutes remaining. Chris McKee got the second half replacing Kieran Inglis.

Cowdenbeath 1 Stranraer 1

Keeper Nicky Hogarth continues to play regularly between the sticks for Cowdenbeath and another ninety minutes.

Scottish Cup

Arbroath 1 Falkirk 2

For Arbroath Ben Williamson came on as an early sub for Bobby Linn and played for an hour, Kyle McClelland was in the Falkirk starting lineup and played for eighty minutes before being replaced by Paul Dixon.

Falkirk’s second goal was scored by former Rangers Academy player Charlie Telfer.

Elgin City 0 Ayr United 4

Jamie Barjonas replaced Cammy Smith and played twenty-three minutes.

Formartine United 1 Annan Athletic 1 (Formartine United won 3-1 on penalties)

Brian Kinnear played ninety minutes but was on the wrong end in the penalty shootout, despite saving two penalties.

Keith 0 Clyde 2

Jack Thomson replaced Ally Love for the last twenty-five minutes.

Former Rangers Academy player Scott Rumsby scored Clyde’s second goal.

Morton 0 Dunfermline Athletic 0 (Morton won 6-5 on penalties)

Another player on the wrong end of a penalty shootout was Lewis Mayo who played the full 120 minutes, he saw his penalty saved by former Rangers Academy keeper Aidan McAdams.

Partick Thistle 3 Cowdenbeath 0

Rangers Academy keepers on opposite sides for the full game, Kieran Wright (Partick Thistle) and Nicky Hogarth (Cowdenbeath).

Thistle’s second goal was scored by former Rangers Academy player Zak Rudden.

Stirling Albion 0 Raith Rovers 2

It was eighty-two minutes for Kai Kennedy before being replaced by Danny Armstrong.

Buckie Thistle 2 Inverness CT 3

Very brief debut for Arron Lyall replacing Danny Mackay in injury time.

Scottish League Two

Stranraer 2 Brechin City 0

Defeat for three Rangers Academy players as Brechin lost at Stranraer. Harris O’Connor and Chris McKee both played ninety minutes, Adam Devine was replaced by Kieran Inglis with eight minutes remaining.

St. Johnstone 1 Ross County 0

A late Glenn Middleton goal secured the points for St.Johnstone, he came on as a sub with fifteen minutes remaining and scored from close range from a Stevie May cutback.

Stephen Kelly was an unused sub for Ross County.

Livingston 1 Hibernian 1

It was a full ninety minutes for Robbie McCrorie in Livi’s draw with Hibs.

Hamilton Accies 1 St.Mirren 1

Danny Finlayson still waits to make his debut for Saints as he was again an unused sub.

Football League 2

Harrogate Town 0 Morcambe 1

Josh McPake played eighty minutes before being replaced by Brendan Kiernan as Harrogate lost at home.

Scottish Championship

Arbroath 0 Hearts 0

Goalless at Gayfield but another ninety minutes registered by Ben Williamson.

Ayr United 1 Raith Rovers 1

Jamie Barjonas and Kai Kennedy were in opposite camps at Somerset Park but game time was limited. The former was an unused sub for Ayr United while the latter came on as a late sub for Raith, replacing Lewis Vaughan in the eighty-second minute.

Dunfermline Athletic 0 Inverness CT 1

Disappointment for Lewis Mayo as Dunfermline lost at home, coming on as a sub for Iain Wilson after fifty-seven minutes,

Morton 2 Queen of the South 1

It was disappointment for the Rangers contingent at Queens, losing at Cappielow. James Maxwell and Rhys Breen both played ninety minutes, Dapo Mebude started but was replaced by Stephen Dobbie in the sixty-eighth minute, Ciaran Dickson was an unused sub.

Former Rangers academy player Gary Oliver scored Morton’s winner.

Scottish League 1

Clyde 1 Easf Fife 3

Jack Thomson started the match being replaced by fellow Rangers loanee Kane Ritchie-Hosler after sixty-five minutes. Zac Butterworth also came on as a sub for Clyde, replacing Connor McGlinchey after seventy-five minutes.

In the East Fife camp Cole McKinnon debuted on eighty-three minutes replacing former Rangers Academy player Scott Agnew.

Falkirk 2 Montrose 0

Kyle McClelland was an unused sub for Falkirk.

Partick Thistle 1 Cove Rangers 1

It was a full ninety minutes for Kieran Wright while Adam Devine was an unused sub.

Annan Athletic 0 Cowdenbeath 0

Rangers had a goalkeeper in each camp with contrasting game time, Brian Kinnear was an unused sub for Annan while Nicky Hogarth played the ninety minutes for Cowdenbeath and of course kept a clean sheet.

Stirling Albion 1 Brechin City 0

It was debuts and full ninety minutes for defender Harris O’Connor and striker Chris McKee for Brechin but they lost out to the only goal.
