Colts Top Glasgow Cup Group

Rangers 2 Queens Park 0

A Tony Weston double saw Rangers complete their Glasgow Cup fixtures and finish top of the group. The goals came in the second half after the first half ended goalless thanks to a Jay Hogarth penalty save.

The visitors came close in the seventh minute, Jay Hogarth seemed to misjudge Ronan Darcy’s shot from the edge of the box but manged to divert the shot on to his right hand post, the rebound was fired against the crossbar from point blank range and when the third effort found the net it was flagged offside. Rangers then had an incredible miss a couple of minutes later, Alex Lowry and Robbie Fraser combined on the left and from the latter’s low cross Cedric Itten looked sure to score from a couple of yards out but failed to get a clean connection allowing Jacques Heraghty to save.

Just over a minute later Cedric Itten was in on goal on a through ball, he tried to round Jacques Heraghty who delayed his progress but the Rangers striker spun and got his shot away with Charlie Fox heading from the goal line. Midway through the half Scott Williamson broke forward to the edge of the box but his shot was comfortably saved by Jay Hogarth low to his right.

Rangers replied when a good passing moved ended with Charlie McCann picking out Cedric Itten inside the right side of the penalty area but he shot over. Just beyond the half hour mark Charlie McCann tried his luck from the edge of the box which Jacques Heraghty saved comfortably low to hi right.

Four minutes before the break Jai Quitongo skinned Mateusz Zukowski allowing a free run into the left side of the penalty area where he was brought down by Greig Allen. Ronan Darcy took the penalty with Jay Hogarth producing a fine save low to his right.

Rangers had the better of the opening quarter hour of the second half without troubling Jacques Hegarty but made the break through on sixty-five minutes. Arron Lyall’s pass released Cole McKinnon inside the right side of the box, Jacques Heraghty blocked the shot with his foot but Tony Weston was on hand to knock the rebound into the net.

Rangers double their lead six minutes later, Charlie McCann was tripped on the edge of the box and just left of centre, Alex Lowry’s shot deflected off the defensive wall into the path of Tony Weston who prodded the ball past the keeper. Rangers had a final chance to add to their tally when Ross McCausland broke into the left side of the box but shot narrowly wide of the far post.
