Comfortable Win For U14’s (2009’s)

Rangers 5 Dundee United 1

Today’s football fix was the Under 14’s clash with Dundee United at The Rangers Training Centre, it was an 11-a-side game played on a slightly reduced pitch, with the goals on the six yard line and the pitch width reduced by a couple of yards on each side.

Rangers scored inside the opening minute, Dundee United lost possession outside their own box and Ben Hutton shot into the keeper’s top right hand corner. Rangers came close to adding to their tally on the quarter hour mark, Ashton Patton and Josh Carson combined on the right and when the cross came in Callum Young headed just wide of the far post.

A minute later Ewan Gray robbed a defender and broke into the right side of the box with the keeper coming from his line to make the block. With the final five minutes of the first period approaching Rangers doubled their lead, Josh Carson won the ball and when he played it into the penalty area it was missed by Callum Young but Luke Moore was on hand to shoot back across the keeper and into the net.

Rangers started the second period where they left off, on the front foot and when Ben Hutton shot from distance the United keeper fumbled but managed to prevent the ball crossing the line. The keeper was in action again saving to his left from Ewan Gray after he was released by an Ashton Patton pass.

Rangers scored a third ten minutes into the second period, Josh Carson provided the pass to send Max Cameron clear and he held off a defender before shooting past the keeper. Within in a minute Oliver Preston fed Josh Carson inside the right side of the box and he cut inside before shooting forcing the keeper to save diving to his right.

Halfway through the period an Oliver Preston free-kick saw the keeper dive high to his right to make the save. A couple of minutes later the visitor’s reduced the deficit, Rangers lost possession attempting to play out from the back and a fine strike gave the Rangers keeper no chance.

Ben Hutton then sent Ewan Gray racing clear with the United keeper saving bravely at the attacker’s feet. Rangers then added a fourth in the final minute of the period, Max Cameron broke down the right and when his centre deflected off a defender to Ewan Gray he shot high past the keeper. There was still time in the second period for the United keeper to be in action again, Pedro Chico in possession left of centre passed inside to Max Cameron who’s shot was saved by the keeper diving to his right.

Rangers added a fifth three minutes into the third period, Max Cameron breaking through between two defenders into the box to shoot past the keeper. Rangers next chance came when Oliver Goodbrand’s pass sent Max Cameron breaking into the left side of the box with the keeper saving bravely at the striker’s feet.

Rangers then came close twice in the same attack, Max Cameron’s shot beat the keeper but came back off the right hand post. Rangers won the loose ball and from Luke Moore’s shot the keeper dived  high to his right to save.

When Luke Moore went past a couple of defenders on the right hand byline his ball across goal reached Oliver Goodbrand who’s powerful strike was parried by the keeper. The final chance came when Ewan Gray, Callum Young and Josh Carson combined on the right with the keeper standing up to block the latter’s shot from a narrow angle.
