U18’s Win At The Orium

Hearts 0 Rangers 4

A dominant first half was the foundation for Rangers comfortable win over Hearts at The Orium tonight. With the young ‘Gers establishing a three goal lead at the break, there was no way back for Hearts.

Rangers took the lead on seven minutes when Mackenzie Strachan delivered a free-kick from wide on the left and Robbie Ure set a looping header back across goal and in at the keeper’s right hand post. The next chance came at the end of an neat passing move on the quarter hour mark, it ended with a Charlie Lindsay shot from inside the right side of the box that Liam McFarlane blocked with his legs.

There was a bit of a confusion around Rangers second goal on twenty-one minutes, a through ball sent Rory Wilson clear and despite a linesman’s flag he continued and put the ball into the net. After a brief consultation the referee over ruled his assistant and awarded the goal. Around the half hour mark Rory Wilson got a header in from a right hand corner which bounced off the keeper’s left hand post.

Just before the break Rangers grabbed a third from the penalty spot, at the end of a neat passing move the referee adjudged Robbie Ure was fouled inside the box with Darren McInally converting from the spot.

Eleven minutes after the break Charlie Lindsay’s attempted chipped pass broke off a defender to Robbie Ure but his shot was just wide of Liam McFarlane’s right hand post. Just after the hour a ball into the Hearts penalty area found Rory Wilson at the back post but he was denied by Liam McFarlane who stuck out a foot to save and Crispin McLean’s effort from the rebound was blocked by a defender.

Hearts had shown little as an attacking force but with twelve minutes remaining an attack crafted on the right saw the ball moved across to Callum Hambrook inside the left side of the box but he shot straight at Jacob Pazikas. Rangers response was to add another goal four minutes later, Leyton Dunlop providing the pass for Zak McKay to go through and shoot past the keeper.
