2004’s Penalise Aberdeen

Rangers 2 Aberdeen 0

In a game of few chances Rangers 2004’s edged out Aberdeen by converting two penalties in today’s game at Auchenhowie. One early in the first half and one with a couple of minutes remaining.

On five minutes Sam Lovie played the into Robbie Ure who was tripped as he turned inside the box and stepped up to covert the penalty. A couple of minutes later Jack Scanlan in possession on the right side of the box picked out Gavin Gallagher at the back post who was denied by a fine close range save.

Both sides then had periods in the ascendancy but the keepers easily dealt with any shots on goal. On the stroke of half-time Kelsey Ewan broke on the right and passed to Robbie Ure, the ball broke for Mackenzie Strachan who shot straight at the keeper.

The second half continued in a similar vein until the last quarter-hour when Aberdeen really should have drawn level. The attack came down the left and when the ball picked out the striker a goal looked certain but he failed to get a clean connection and Jack McConnell saved comfortably. From another attack down the left a cross bounced of the face of the Rangers crossbar and was scrambled clear.

With three minutes remaining Gavin Gallagher passed to Leyton Dunlop on the left hand angle of the box, he picked out Ricco Diack on the opposite side of the penalty area, the referee judged he was impeded in the act of shooting for a rather soft penalty, which he duly converted.
