This week’s youth football fix began on Friday night with Rangers 15’s taking on St.Mirren at Ralston. It was a comfortable win for Rangers with the home side failing to trouble either of Rangers goalkeepers.

Rangers 1 Celtic 4

Monday night was a chance to take in a game for the youngest eleven-a-side team, they lost to their closest rivals although the scoreline was possibly a bit harsh.

Celtic took the lead on eleven minutes, Rangers were caught playing the ball out from defence and the attack came into the left side of the box and the ball was curled beyond the keeper into the far corner. Rangers replied when Dire Mebude and Robbie Ure combined down the right with the Celtic keeper coming out to save at the former’s feet.

As the end of the period approached Celtic attacked through the middle with Jack McConnell saving low to his right. The final attack of the period came from Rangers, Harley Ewan in possesion on the left passed inside to Darren McInally who forced the keeper to dive to his right to save.

Rangers drew level eleven minutes into the second period, Darren McInally split the defence with a great through ball, as Robbie Ure broke into the box the referee judged the keeper impeded the striker and awarded a penalty that Dire Mebude converted. On fifteen minutes the Celtic keeper failed to gather Darren McInally’s corner from the right. With the attackers hesitating the Celtic defence cleared and broke down the left, the attacker looked to have over run the ball but just managed to get a touch to square the ball for his striker to shoot into the net.

Rangers came close to equalising when Dire Mebude latched on to a slack pass back and rounded the keeper but a defender got back to block his shot on the goal line. Celtic increased their lead in the third period with an attack through the middle, their striker going past a couple of defenders before shooting high into the net.

When Rangers cleared a corner from their penalty area a shot came in from the edge of the box that came back off the underside of the cross bar. The scoring was completed after the final period turn round when they capitalised on a mix up between defender and goalkeeper to grab a fourth.
