Glasgow Cup Defeat for 17’s

Rangers 0 Celtic 4

Rangers 17’s reserved one of their poorest performances for tonight’s Glasgow Cup Final, going down heavily to Celtic. It was particularly frustrating as it is a fixture they have dominated this season, winning three and drawing one of the previous four meetings this season.

After a tame opening period Rangers created a chance with a quick break on the quarter hour mark, Andy Dallas progressed down the right before cutting inside but his shot was weak and Aidan McAdams saved comfortably. Celtic went straight up the other end and came close to taking the lead, Ewan Henderson found himself free inside the left hand side of the box, Kieran Wright came out block his initial effort and when he headed goalwards Aidan Wilson got back to clear from the line.

Just before the twenty minute mark a corner from the right was cleared from Rangers penalty area but only as far as Wallace Duffy on the left hand angle of the box and he forced a save from Kieran Wright at his near post. Within two minutes Celtic took the lead, from Broque Watson’s cross from the right Michal Johnston’s attempted volley on the left side of the box stuck under his feet wrong footing a couple of Rangers defenders and allowing him to cut inside and shoot past Kieran Wright.

Rangers responded with a Jamie Barjonas free-kick that was just too high. Then Jack Thomson fed Liam Burt from the right and his shot from the edge of the box was touched wide of his left hand post by Aidan McAdams.

Just after the half-hour Jack Aitchison cut in from the right and his pass picked out the run of Daniel Church who poked the ball past Kieran Wright but wide of his right hand post. Ten minutes before the break Rangers were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box just right of centre, Jamie Bajonas powerful strike beat the wall but Aidan McAdams dived to his right to push the shot wide.

Within three minutes Celtic doubled their lead, Jack Aitchison broke down the left and cut inside before shooting which was blocked by Kieran Wright but he was left helpless as Broque Watson followed up to knock the rebound into the net. As half-time approached Michael Johnston’s free-kick from just outside the left side of the box took a significant deflection, Kieran Wright managed to change direction to produce a brilliant save low to his left. On the stroke of half-time from a Michael Johnston corner from the left Wallace Duffy got a free header at the back post that Kieran Wright saved at the post.

Half-Time:- Rangers 0 Celtic 2

Rangers started the half on the front foot and created a chance five minutes in, Jamie Barjonas teeing up Zak Rudden inside the right side of the box to force a save from Aidan McAdams at his near post. Four minutes later Celtic scored a third with their first attack of the half, Shaun Bowers broke down the right and into the penalty area where his shot deflected off a defender and past Kieran Wright.

Midway through the half Zak Rudden chased a Stephen Kelly through ball with Aidan McAdams racing from his line to block. At the other end Jack Aitchison and Michael Johnston combined on the left hand angle of Rangers box with the former forcing a diving save from Kieran Wright to his right.

On seventy-three minutes Zak Rudden  showed good control to collect a long ball but his shot was wide of Aidan McAdams left hand post. The scoring was completed with two minutes remaining, Jack Aitchison cut in from the left and his attempted pass deflected off a defender to land perfectly for Kieran Campbell to shoot past Kieran Wright.
