Glasgow Cup Stalemate

Rangers Under 17’s  were held to a goalless draw in this morning’s Glasgow Cup Sectional tie at Murray Park. It was a game of few chances although any that came were created by Rangers with Celtic failing to trouble Kieran Wright throughout the ninety minutes.

The first sight of goal came in the twelfth minute, Scott Gray in possession on the left hand angle of the box picked out Zak Rudden inside the penalty area but he shot across goal and wide far post. The young Rangers side continued to dominate and came close to taking the lead on the half hour mark. From a free kick wide on the right Jamie Barjonas sent it deep beyond the far post were Stephen Kelly headed back across goal for Lewis Mayo to head goalwards only to be denied when Aidan McAdams dived high to his left to turn the ball wide of the post.

Rangers had an early chance four minutes after the break, Liam Burt broke from halfway,  he passed inside to Jamie Barjonas who was challenged and  the ball broke for Andy Dallas to burst into the right side of penalty area and his shot from a tight angle had Aidan McAdams getting down low to his right to save. Midway through the half Liam Burt attacked on the right and when he cut the ball back Mati Zata’s strike had Aidan McAdams beaten but it was just wide of the keeper’s left hand post.

Little had been seen of Celtic in an attacking sense but two minutes later Mikey Johnston attacked the right side of Rangers penalty area and picked out Ciaran Diver inside the box and it took a brilliant Lewis Mayo challenge to clear the danger. Rangers continued to look the most likely to break the deadlock and the final significant effort on goal came with four minutes remaining, Jack Thomson’s long range effort from just left of centre saw Aiden McAdams fumble the ball behind low at his right hand post.
