High Scoring Win For 14’s

Rangers 8 Hibernian 4

Last night was an opportunity to take in the Under 14’s clash with Hibernian at Murray Park.In a high scoring match Rangers were comfortable winners although Hibs were always dangerous when they attacked.

Rangers took an early lead when Owen McGinty attacked down the left, went past the full-back and hit the byline, he looked up to roll the ball across goal for Simon Millar to knock the ball into the net. Hibs equalised within a few minutes with a very similar goal, an attacked down the left, a ball played across goal and fired past Lewis Budinauckas at the back post.

Rangers came close when the ball was moved from central to right from Tom Henderson via Kai Kennedy to Matty Yates inside the right side of the box and he forced the keeper into a fine save. Rangers regained the lead a couple of minutes before the end of the period, Matty Yates passed to Owen McGinty on the left, he went past the full back and left the keeper stranded with a superb chip over his head and into the net.

A couple of minutes into the second period Simon Millar attacked the left side of the Hibs penalty area, went past two defenders but was denied when the keeper blocked his shot at the near post with his legs. The goal was only delayed a couple of minutes and it came when a Matty Yates pass sent Simon Millar racing clear, he continued into the box and slotted the ball past the keeper. The striker then had Rangers next chance, Ciaran Dickson sent Matty Yates down the right, with the Hibs defence struggling to clear the ball fell for Simon Millar to spin and shoot from around the penalty spot that the keeper saved.

He soon completed his hat-trick, it was created  when Callum Biggar passed Matty Yates on the right side of the penalty area and he centred for Simon Millar to find the net with a simple finish. With just over ten minutes of the period gone Rangers scored a superb fifth goal, Matthew Henderson played the ball forward to Owen McGinty on the left, a superb piece of skill took him past the full-back, he played a one-two with Kai Kennedy on the left side of the box before shooting across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

Rangers then opened up Hibs with a brilliant passing move, started by Matthew Henderson the ball was moved via Tom Henderson and Kai Kennedy to pick up Matthew Henderson’s run into the left side of the box, his cut back found Matty Yates inside the box and only a fine save prevented what would have been a brilliant goal. We didn’t have to wait long for Rangers sixth goal, when the ball came into the penalty area from the right and was cleared to the edge of the penalty area where it was met by Kai Kennedy who’s shot gave the keeper no chance as it found the corner of the net.

Following a corner from the right and with the Rangers defence struggling to clear the ball was fired just wide of Jay Hogarth’s left hand post. The final action of the period saw a Kai Kennedy solo run take him past four Hibs defenders as he attacked the left side of the box but he couldn’t quite beat the keeper who saved at close range.

The visitors attacked from the kick-off in the final period with an attack on the right side of the Rangers penalty area, the shot beat Jay Hogarth but came back off the crossbar. In their next attack the visitors reduced the deficit, again the attack came on the right and when the ball was passed inside the shot from the edge of the box beat Jay Hogarth.

Rangers five goal cushion was restored when the period reached the ten minute mark, Ben Lauchan latched on to a short pass back to round the keeper and roll the ball into the net. Within in minutes the Rangers substitute had another chance, he was found when Kai Kennedy’s pass split the defence but on this occasion Ben Lauchan’s shot was saved.

Before the final period turn around Hibs attacked through the middle and with Jay Hogarth beaten the ball again bounced back off the crossbar. Within sixty seconds of the turn round Hibs scored a third, it was created on the right and when the ball was centred it was fired past Jay Hogarth.

With eight minutes remaining the visitor’s reduced the deficit further, the ball was won midway inside Rangers half and they continued through the middle into the box and the ball was fired into the net. Two Minutes later the scoring was complete, Blair Rossiter in possession on the left picked out Matty Yates inside the box who fired past the keeper to end a high scoring encounter.
