Colts Rue Missed Chances

Dalbeattie Star 2 Rangers 0

It was another disappointing day for Rangers Colts as they went down to Dalbeattie Star at Islecroft Stadium this afternoon. The Ibrox youngster had plenty of chances, especially in the first half but some great defending and slack finishing saw them pay the price.

The first real chance came on eighteen minutes when Ross McCausland cut the ball back from the left hand byline to Juan Alegria who shot just wide of the far post. Eight minutes later Tony Weston broke into the left side of the box but under pressure from a defender he could only poke the ball straight at Daryl Smith.

In the next attack Juan Alegria passed to Ross McCausland on the right, he broke into the penalty area but his effort was deflected behind for a corner. A minute later the home side took the lead, a long ball and flick on released Dylan Cairnie who cut inside a defender before shooting past Arron Cervantes.

Rangers responded when Ross McCausland hit the right hand byline before picking out Chris McCann but once again a defender made the block. From Robbie Fraser’s corner from the right Lewis MacKinnon’s header was cleared in front of the goal. Just before the break a great move saw the ball moved to Robbie Fraser on the left, his cross was headed down by Juan Alegria at the far post for Kane Ritchie-Hosler to strike  but he saw a defender clear his shot from the goal line.

Rangers first real threat of the second half came from a twenty-five yard Robbie Fraser free kick that was hit low past the wall but Daryl Smith saved comfortably. Rangers looked sure to draw level on sixty four minutes when Charlie Lindsay picked out Ross McCausland inside the left side of the box, his shot beat the keeper but Jack Dickinson got back on the line to make r a brilliant headed clearance.

With ten minutes remaining and following a Dalbeattie Star corner from the left the referee spotted an infringement and pointed to the penalty spot with Dean Brotherston converting. With three minutes remaining Dalbeattie’s Steven Degnan was shown a second yellow and subsequent red card for a trip on Robbie Fraser.

Rangers had a great chance in the final action of the game, Charlie McCann’s pass freed Arron Lyall inside the right side of the penalty area but Daryl Smith advanced from his line to make the block.
