Another Win For Colts

Rangers Colts recorded another Lowland League win at Dumbarton this afternoon, it was a hard fought came with The Colts getting on top late on as the ten man Caledonian Braves side tired.

The first chance of the game came for the visitors on seven minutes, Zac Butterworth cutting in from the left and passing to Cameron Breadner who’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected wide for a corner. Rangers took the lead on 19 minutes from the penalty spot, Matthew Henderson had a poor touch inside the box and when he stretched for the ball he tripped Charlie Lindsay for a clear penalty. Juan Alegria stepped up to convert from the spot.

A few minutes later Caley Braves threatened from a free-kick that Jack Brown fired just wide of Lewis Budinauckas’s right hand post.  Another free-kick called the Rangers keeper into action, turning Rhys Armstrong’s shot from the left hand angle of the box wide of the near post.

With the half entering the final ten minutes Rhys Armstrong sent in a corner from the right that Marc Kelly headed wide of the far post. Caledonian Braves when reduced to ten men just before half time when Cameron Breadner was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Charlie McCann.

Two minutes into the second half the sides were level, Rhys Armstrong’s corner from the left was allowed to bounce inside the box and Jack Duncan pounced to nod into the net at the back post. Rangers had a chance on fifty-two minutes when Kane Ritchie-Hosler broke forward and passed to Ross McCausland inside the left side of the penalty area but he shot wide of the far post.

Soon after coming on Alex Lowry’s shot from the edge of the box forced a superb tip over from Chris Hendry. With twenty-five minutes remaining Rangers looked likely to take the lead when a Kane Ritchie-Hosler solo run took him deep inside the penalty area but the ball took a bobble in the act of shooting and his shot went wide of the keeper’s left hand post.

Rangers were creating more chances as the ten man Braves started to tire, Alex Lowry released Tony Weston to break into the right side of the box but he shot over from a narrow angle. A couple of minutes later Adam Devine’s cross from the right found its way to Robbie Fraser beyond the back post and he saw his shot beaten away by Chris Hendry.

Kane Ritchie-Hosler then tried his luck from around twenty-five yards with Chris Hendry saving low to his right. Rangers pressure told with six minutes remaining, Charlie McCann provided the pass to release Ross McCausland inside the right side of the penalty area and he managed to squeeze the ball past the keeper from close to the byline.

The same players combined two minutes later, Ross McCausland turning provider to tee up Chris McCann on the edge of the box but his shot was just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. With two minutes remaining Ross McCausland and Tony Weston exchanged passes before the ball was played into Kane Ritchie-Hosler inside the box were he was brought down with a challenge from behind. Alex Lowry did the needful sending the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

There was still time for Chris Hendry to produce the save of the match, Ross McCausland  received a return pass and his goal bound shot was turned on to the cross bar and over.
