Youths Ease Into Next Round

Rangers 5 Queen of the South 0

Rangers Under 18’s had a comfortable passage into the 3rd round of the Youth Cup against Queen of the South at The Rangers Training Centre tonight. The Rangers goal was never really under threat and they could have added a few more to their tally.

Rangers had a great chance to open the scoring in the fourth minute, Robbie Ure raced clear on a Mackenzie Strachan pass and he was brought down as he rounded the keeper, he stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way but the ball clipped the keeper’s right post on its way past. The opening goal was only delayed a couple of minutes with Robbie Ure being the creator, breaking down the left before passing inside for Rory Wilson to shoot past the keeper.

Rangers next chance came just after the quarter hour mark, Leyton Dunlop feeding Robbie Ure inside the left side of the penalty area but his shot was just wide of the far post. Rangers were in command and creating chances on a regular basis, when Mackenzie Strachan passed inside the left back Connor Allan hit the right hand byline and his ball across the six yard box just evaded the sliding Robbie Ure.

The visitors had shown little in way of attacks but on twenty-five minutes a corner from the right caused some concern inside Rangers box. When it was cleared Queen’s moved the ball out to the right and from the cross a header was glanced wide of the far post. Rangers were soon back on the attack and Robbie Ure broke forward before passing to Rory Wilson inside the left side of the penalty area with the keeper saving the striker’s shot.

Rangers doubled their lead on thirty-four minutes with Connor Allan starting and finishing the move, he progressed along the eighteen yard line from right to left leaving two defenders in his wake, his pass into the penalty area broke for Rory Wilson and his chip from the left hand byline returned the ball to the midfielder who nodded into the net. Rangers final chance of the half came when Jack Harkness and Connor Allan combined on the right to tee up Tyler Pasnik who’s shot from the angle of the box was saved.

An early chance after the break came when the ball broke kindly for Connor Allan but his shot from the edge of the box was just too high. Rangers were continuing where the left off and the Queen’s keeper was in action again, saving Kyle Semple’s shot from the left hand angle of the box after he exchanged passes with Robbie Ure.

Rory Wilson then created a chance for Robbie Ure cutting the ball back from the byline with the keeper again making the save. On the hour a through ball from Jack Harkness sent Rory Wilson clear, a defender got back to make the block and the keeper reacted to keep out the striker’s follow up from the rebound.

On sixty-four minutes Rangers increased their lead through a superb solo effort from substitute Zak McKay, cutting in from the right he went past two defenders and shot across the keeper into the far corner. The next chance came when Rory Wilson dispossessed a defender twenty-five yards out but was denied when the keeper came from his line to block.

It was followed by a fifth goal seven minutes later, Kyle Semple cutting the ball back from the left hand byline for Jack Roberts to blast the ball into the net despite a valiant attempt by the keeper.

A couple of minutes later the visitor’s keeper excelled with his save of the night, diverting Kyle Semple’s powerful shot from the edge of the box on to the crossbar. With two minutes remaining from Tyler Pasnik’s run and cross on the right Jack Roberts seemed certain to score but his volley was just wide of the far post.
