Under 16’s Lose To Accies

Hamilton Accies 3 Rangers 1

Following on from Friday’s Under 18’s 2-3 defeat to Celtic and last weekend’s Under 15’s 0-4 loss to Hearts it was three academy defeats in a row for me with the Under 16’s going down at Hamilton. They were second best by some distance in the first half, improved a bit after the break but not enough to turn the game around.

Accies took the lead on nine minutes from a free-kick on the edge of the box and left of centre, the positioning of the defensive wall was suspect as a low shot past the wall found the net inside the near post. Rangers first chance came when Kieran Wilson got to the right hand byline and when his cross was headed clear Finlay Curtis met it on the volley with the home keeper making the save.

A couple of minutes before the half hour mark the home side double their lead, a free-kick from close to the halfway line was sent into Rangers box and with nobody taking responsibility to deal with it the ball bounced inside the six yard box for an Hamilton player to net. Ten minutes later an Accies attack on the left resulted in a shot from close to the byline that Sam Kane blocked with his legs.

Half-Time:- Hamilton Accies 2 Rangers 0

Rangers fell further behind eight minutes into the second half, the striker appeared to have lost his chance inside the left side of the penalty area, but he was allowed a second chance by the Rangers defence and shot past Evan Anderson. Rangers reduced the deficit just before mark, a corner from the left found its way to Sean Phinn at the back post and his volley was turned into the net by Cameron Ossebi.

With the final ten minutes approaching Rocco Friel sent Crispin McLean clear on the right, he got to the byline and his cut back picked out Kieran Wilson who saw his shot blocked in front of goal.
