Defeat For Under 18’s

Rangers 2 Celtic 3

A disappointing performance and result saw Rangers U18’s lose to Celtic at The Rangers Training Centre tonight.

Celtic started the better and on five minutes they broke forward from midfield but the shot from the edge of the box flew wide of Jack McConnell’s right hand post. The visitors took the lead on eighteen minutes, Rangers appeared to have repelled the attack but then lost possession inside the left side of the box to Ben Quinn who shot past Jack McConnell.

Rangers were back on level terms almost immediately, Kyle Semple was sent down the left and his low cross was converted from the edge of the six yard box by Leyton Dunlop. Celtic probably edged the first half but neither keeper was troubled for the rest of the half.

Half-Time:- Rangers 1 Celtic 1

Rangers had two early chances after the break, three minutes in Mackenzie Strachan broke forward and passed to Rory Wilson who’s superb first touch allowed him to get a shot away but it was just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Within a minute Ryan Duncan’s pass sent Jack Roberts breaking into the right side of the penalty area with the keeper blocking the shot with a foot.

Celtic replied from a free-kick wide on the right hand touchline that was delivered to the back post where it was headed narrowly wide. A couple of minutes before the hour mark Celtic took the lead from the penalty spot, Kyle Semple conceded the spot-kick with a mistimed challenge inside the right side of the box and Ben Doak stepped up to convert.

Within a minute Celtic were reduced to ten men with a straight red card for a shocking challenge on Leyton Dunlop. With three minutes remaining and Rangers chasing the game Celtic broke to grab a third, substitute Daniel Cummings breaking on the right from the halfway line to continue into the box and shoot past Jack McConnell.

With the game entering injury time Rangers pulled a goal back, Mackenzie Strachan swung in a corner from the right and Greig Allen rose highest to head past the keeper.
