Colts Top Lowland League

Spartans 0 Rangers 2

Rangers Colts made two wins and two clean sheets in two games at Ainslie Park tonight to top the Lowland League. The Ibrox youngster were pretty much in control although goalmouth action in the first half was limited, they made their superiority tell after the break.

There was one change to the starting lineup from Saturday’s lineup against Bo’ness United with Robbie Fraser coming in for James Maxwell. And the Rangers left-back almost provided an assist in the opening minute, teeing up Arron Lyall in the left side of the box but his shot was wide of the near post. A few minutes he almost opened the scoring, Cole McKinnon crossed from the right and Robbie Fraser’s header forced Blair Carswell into a fine save.

The first real threat from the home side came just after the half-hour mark, a throw in on the right allowed a cross to come into the box and with the Rangers defence failing to clear the ball broke to Blair Henderson but his miscued shot went tamely past Jay Hogarth’s right hand post. Just before the break a great run on the left from Robbie Fraser took him to the byline and from his cross Tony Weston got in a looping header that landed on the top of the net.

Rangers took the lead two minutes into the second half, Arron Lyall and Robbie Fraser combined on the left and when the ball was passed inside Cole McKinnon gave Blair Carswell no chance from around twenty-five yards. Just before the hour a brilliant first time pass from Cole McKinnon on the right gave Robbie Ure a chance but his header was weak and Blair Carswell saved comfortably.

Rangers doubled their lead at the midpoint of the half when brilliant chipped pass from Charlie Lindsay released Robbie Ure who rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the net. The next goalmouth action came at the other end when Alan Brown forced Jay Hogarth into a fine diving save.

Rangers were soon back on the attack and Kane Ritchie-Hosler’s through ball found Robbie Ure breaking into the right side of the penalty area but was denied by a fine Blair Carswell save. The game ended with a Rangers chance, Malcolm Ebiowei cut in to the right hand angle of the box but his powerful strike was beaten away by the keeper.
