Heavy Defeat For 2005’s

Rangers  Ayr United 5

It was a disappointing performance from Rangers 2005’s falling to a heavy defeat against Ayr United at The Hummel Training Centre this afternoon. Even more so when they were two goals up after thirteen minutes.

Rangers took the lead on four minutes when Rory Wilson fired a free kick into the keeper’s top left hand corner. Less than ten minutes later rangers doubled their lead, Jamie Newton played a ball over the Ayr defence and Rory Wilson raced clear to round the keeper and roll the ball into the net.

As the final ten minutes of the half approached Rangers failed to clear a corner from the left and Jacob Pazikas diverted a close range shot wide of his right hand post. Within a minute Ayr reduced the deficit, attacking on the left a shot from the angle of the box beat Jacob Pazikas low to his left.

Four minutes before the break Ayr attacked into the right side of the box with Jacob Pazikas standing up to make the save. The visitors then hit Rangers with two goals just before the break. The first came from a free kick wide on the left that glanced off a Rangers defender’s head and in at the far post. An attack then started down the left and when the ball was played across to the right side of the box it was fired high past Jacob Pazikas.

Rangers came close eight minutes after the break, Brodie Kerr played the ball forward and Ben Conduit broke into the right side of the box, he passed inside to Ricco Diack who was denied by a fine save from the keeper. Less then five minutes later the ball was knocked into the Ayr box, Ben conduit got there to knock the ball past the keeper but a defender cleared.

Just after the hour mark Jacob Pazikas came for and missed a long ball into the box but recovered to save before Ayr could capitalise. With the game now in the final twenty minutes Ricco Diack’s through ball released Ben Conduit but the keeper blocked the shot with his foot. When the ball came to Rory Wilson his twenty-five yard lob seemed net bound until the keeper recovered to tip the ball onto the bar.

The visitors immediately broke to the other end and Jacob Pazikas had to be alert to save a twenty-five yarder high to his left. They then increased their lead with the next attack, breaking on the left and converting from the edge of the six yard box when the ball was centred.

Ayr threatened again with an effort from fully thirty yards that Jacob Pazikas stretched to tip over. Ayr’s fifth goal came with two minutes remaining, the attack was through the centre of Rangers defence and the shot beyond Jacob Pazikas.
