Comfortable Win For Under 18’s

Rangers 3 Hearts 0

A young Rangers Under 18 side recorded a comfortable victory over what appeared to be an even younger Hearts side at The Hummel Training Centre tonight. The Tynecastle youngsters never seriously troubled Lewis Budinauckas in the Rangers goal. The scoring was completed by the break and the second half petered out to the final whistle.

Rangers took the lead on the quarter-hour mark, Dapo Mebude chased the ball down the left and when he won possession he cut into the penalty area and shot high past the keeper. Rangers doubled their lead two minutes later from the penalty spot, James Maxwell won the ball and played a one-two with Kieran McKechnie to break into the box where he was brought down from behind. Nathan Patterson stepped up to convert from the spot.

The half was twenty-fives minutes old when Ciaran Dickson won possession on the edge of the box and exchanged passes with James Maxwell before teeing up Kieran McKechnie to his left who shot across goal and just wide of the far post. Rangers third goal came nine minutes before the break, Ciaran Dickson sent Dapo Mebude through the inside left channel, he progressed into the box before passing the ball across the keeper and into the far corner of the net.

The final chance of the half came from the right with Harris O’Connor passing to James Maxwell who moved it on to Kieran McKechnie and he forced a save from the keeper.

Six minutes into the second half Dapo Mebude was fouled on the edge of the box and Kyle McLelland’s free-kick was net bound until the keeper leapt to turn the ball over. A few minutes later Ciaran Dickson broke forward and passed to Dapo Mebude who continued into the right side of the box before forcing another save from the keeper.

The next chance came when Nathan Patterson linked with Ciaran Dickson on the left to move the ball inside to Kieran McKechnie and the keeper dived low to his left to save the resultant shot. Rangers continued to be the dominant force without really threatening to add to their tally.
