Reserves Hit Six

Rangers 6 Motherwell 2

It was an interesting game at The Hummel Training Centre this afternoon, a strong Rangers team dominated the first half and established a two goal lead. With Rangers fielding a younger team after the break Motherwell came back to level the game before Rangers ran away in the final quarter-hour scoring some fine goals.

The first chance came on six minutes when Cammy Palmer passed to Umar Sadiq inside the box, he showed good skill to beat a defender and force Rohan Ferguson to turn the ball wide of his left hand post. Seven minutes later And Dallas won a challenge and the ball broke to Umar Sadiq on the edge of the box but again Rohan Ferguson saved this time diving to his right.

At the midpoint of the half Jordan Rossiter tried his luck from a thirty yard free-kick that Rohan Ferguson stretched to tip over. Motherwell hadn’t threatened but with the half-hour mark approaching James Scott had a chance inside the right side of the box, although it appeared he pushed Cammy Palmer to gain possession, but he shot across goal and wide of the far post.

Rangers took the lead a couple of minutes later, when the ball was cleared from the Motherwell box Cammy Palmer’s twenty-five yard strike slipped through Rohan Ferguson’s grasp low at his right hand post.  Lee Wallace then exchanged passes with Eros Grezda to break into the left side of the penalty area but was denied by a Rohan Ferguson save.

Rangers doubled their lead four minutes before the break, Cammy Palmer finding Eros Grezda inside the left side the box and he shot past Rohan Ferguson.

With Rangers replacing the four first team players they still were first to threaten after the break, Serge Atakayi breaking into the left side of the box and forcing Rohan Ferguson to block with his foot. The visitor’s first chance of the half came on fifty-five minutes, Adam Livingston passing to Broque Watson inside the right side of the penalty area with Aidan McAdams coming from his line to make the block.

Within a couple of minutes Motherwell reduced the deficit, Jake Hastie’s pass sending Jamie Semple through to shoot past Aidan McAdams. Rangers were soon back on the attack and when Serge Atakayi skinned Shaun Bowers on the left he was denied when Rohan Ferguson blocked with his foot.

Motherwell drew level just after the seventy minute mark, when a long ball into the Rangers box was knocked clear it fell to Shaun Bowers on the edge of the box and he shot into Aidan McAdams bottom right hand corner. Rangers restored their lead within three minutes, Serge Atakayi went past Shaun Bowers on the left and passed inside to Stephen Kelly who moved it on to Dapo Mebude on the right hand angle of the box, his initial effort was blocked but when the ball came back to him he shot across the keeper and into the net.

Rangers restored their two goal cushion with eleven minutes remaining, Dapo Mebude evaded a challenge as he broke down the right and passed to Andy Dallas who held off a defender inside the right side of the box and shot past the keeper. There seemed little danger when Andy Dallas chased a ball into the left side of the box but Rohan Ferguson left the ball slip through his grasp, the Rangers striker tried to walk the ball into the net but was dispossessed by Jordan Armstrong who cleared.

Within the game now in the last five minutes Rangers scored a fine fifth goal, Andy Dallas sent Serge Atakayi down the left, he went past a defender and crossed low for Dapo Mebude to fire into the net. In injury time Stephen Kelly swung over a corner from the left and Lewis Mayo’s attempted volley landed kindly for Dapo Mebude at the back post to net from close range.
