16’s Draw At Motherwell

Motherwell 1 Rangers 1

This weekend’s football fix was Sunday’s under 16 clash between Rangers and their Motherwell counterparts at Braidhurst High School. The game finished all square with Rangers being the happier with that outcome with the home side edging the clear-cut chances.

Motherwell missed a great opportunity to take the lead on seven minutes, when the attack came in to the right side of Rangers penalty area the attacker was tripped by Matthew Henderson and the referee pointed to the spot. It wasn’t the best of spot kicks and Lewis Budinauckas saved low to his right. A couple of minutes later another Motherwell attack, this time on the left saw the ball cleared to the edge of the box and the resultant shot going just wide of Lewis Budinauckas right hand post.

On the quarter-hour mark Rangers only remained on level terms due to a stunning Lewis Budinauckas save. A free-kick was delivered from the left and the header seemed destined for the net until the Rangers keeper dived high to his left to touch the ball on to the bar. For the remainder of the half Rangers struggled to get a foothold in the game but restricted the home sides clear chances.

Half-Time:- Motherwell 0 Rangers 0

The half was five minutes old when Motherwell took the lead, Aidan Berry lost possession allowing the ‘Well attacker to break into the left side of the box where he was impeded as he tried to round Lewis Budinauckas. On this occasion the penalty was only just squeezed past the Rangers keeper. Rangers responded five minutes later with Dire Mebude showing good strength to hold off a defender on the right hand byline but his shot from a tight angle went wide off the near post.

Within two minutes Rangers were level, Robbie Fraser sent the ball out to Matthew Henderson on the left and from his cross Alex Lowrie took a touch before shooting past the keeper. Just after the hour mark a Motherwell attack took them deep into the right side of Rangers penalty area with Lewis Budinauckas blocking with his legs.

Rangers response was immediate and when Alex Lowrie teed up Aaron Lyall on the edge of the box he was only denied when the keeper dived high to his left to touch the ball on to the bar. With ten minutes remaining Alex Lowrie passed to Dire Mebude on the edge of the penalty area his powerful shot was parried by the keeper and cleared behind by a defender.

Both sides then had a ball flashing across their opponents six yard box with no takers and the game ended all square.
