Cup Win For 16’s

Rangers Under 16’s (2003’s) made it three wins out of three in the new cup section game. Queen’s were always in the game but Rangers should really have won more comfortably.

Rangers took the lead before the game reached the five-minute mark, the ball broke to Cole McKinnon and his shot from round twenty-five yards gave the keeper no chance. The visitor’s equalised with their first real attack on seventeen minutes, the attack took them to the left hand byline and the cross was headed past Lewis Budinauckas,

Rangers regained the lead just before the half-hour mark, Matthew Henderson’s free-kick from ten yards inside the Queen’s Park half was flicked on by Aiden Berry for Leon King to fire past the keeper.

The second half was just over ten minutes old when Alex Lowrie passed to Aaron Lyall inside the right side of the box, he went past a defender but was denied when the keeper made a fine save. There was little more than a quarter-hour remaining when Alex Lowrie switched play to Adam Devine on the right and he moved the ball to Cole McKinnon on the edge of the box, his turn made space for the shot but it was just wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

The visitor’s responded with an effort from around twenty-five yards that Lewis Budinauckas saved. With four minutes remaining Adam Devine hit the byline on the right and his cut back was fired over by Aaron Lyall. There was still time for the keeper to deny Rangers a third with a superb double save. Alex Lowrie passed to Cole McKinnon who released Adam Devine inside the right side of the penalty area, his shot from a narrow angle was saved by the keeper. In the ensuing scramble the ball came back to Adam Devine whose second effort was saved at point-blank range.
