Rangers took on Partick Thistle in  friendly at Murray Park tonight and with three trialists in the lineup it was the striker who grabbed the headlines scoring all four goals.

The first chance of the game came when Trialist (9), lobbed the ball over the defence for Trialist (10) who’s shot was deflected just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Rangers took the lead on seventeen minutes, Trialist (10) and Nathan Patterson combined to play the ball though for Trialist (9) inside the right side of the box and he found the net via the far post.

As the half-hour mark approached Thistle created a chance deep inside the right side of Rangers penalty area and it took a superb Lewis Muir save to keep the lead intact. Rangers doubled their lead five minutes before the break, Trialist (10) played the ball over the top of the Thistle defence and Trialist (9) held off a defender before continuing into the box and shooting past the keeper.

To be honest I don’t really take the blog that seriously its just a wee hobby/pastime. I have no official connection with the club, therefore I have no inside info on who is playing or why. I would assume any overage players fielded were at the agreement of both clubs.

I agree there were a few under 16’s not in the squad, more than a couple, I make it 10. An U17’s friendly at Southampton today might have something to do with that, but as I say I don’t have any inside info.

At the end of the day it was youth game with the aim of developing players, does it really matter who plays for either team.
