A Win And A Clean Sheet For Colts

Bo’ness United 0 Rangers 4

Rangers Colts hit four without reply this afternoon at Newtown Park, wins have came along on a regular basis in the Lowland League but clean sheets have been a bit rarer with today’s only the fourth, so hopefully this is a sign of a tighter defence for the league going forward. A three goal half-time lead was possibly a bit harsh on the home side who had a few chances of their own but there threat diminished as the second half progressed.

Rangers took the lead on four minutes, Zak Lovelace chipped a pass to Robbie Ure inside the left side of the penalty area where he controlled the ball before shooting across Musa Dibaga into the far corner of the net. The home side’s reply saw Jamie Hamilton break into the left side of Rangers box and his shot forced Lewis Budinauckas to tip over.

The home side threatened again when Lennon Walker burst into the right side of the penalty area before shooting just wide of the far post. Lennon Walker came close again around the midpoint of the half, cutting in from the right and passing two defenders before shooting just wide of Lewis Budinauckas’s right hand post.

Just before the half hour mark Arron Lyall lost possession close to the edge of his own box and from Alassan Jones’s shot Lewis Budiauckas saved low to his right. Within a minute Zak Lovelace’s solo run took him into the penalty area where he went down under a challenge and the referee awarded what a looked like a rather soft penalty. Robbie Ure stepped up but was denied as Musa Dibaga dived to his right to make a fine save. From the resultant corner the ball landed at the feet of Robbie Ure at the back post, his shot beat the keeper and appeared to be handled on the line but before the referee could make a decision Connor Allan’s close range header had crossed the line.

Six minutes before the break Rangers added a superb third goal, Arron Lyall sent Kelsey Ewan down the right and from his first time centre Robbie Ure neatly flicked the ball back to Zak Lovelace and he shot past Musa Dibaga from just inside the penalty area. The home side tried to reduce the deficit in the minutes leading up to the half-time whistle, Alassan Jones struck a free-kick from the right hand angle of the box straight at Lewis Budinauckas. Then a bit of head tennis inside Rangers penalty area ended with Keir Macauley heading goalwards which the Rangers keeper clutched under the crossbar.

Rangers came close a couple of minutes after the break when Kevin Ciubotaru broke on the left and from his centre Robbie Ure couldn’t get a clean enough connection to beat the keeper. The Rangers striker really should have scored five minutes later when he was through on Musa Dibaga but as he went wide of the keeper Nick Locke got back to challenge and clear for a corner.

With the final twenty minutes approaching Bo’ness worked a short corner on the right, Lennon Walker passing to Alassan Jones who’s shot from the right hand angle was straight at Lewis Budinauckas. Two minutes later Rangers extended their advantage to four, Lewis MacKinnon’s pass from the back split the defence and sent Ross McCausland clear to continue into the box and shoot past Musa Dibaga.

In the final minute Connor Young chased the ball to the left hand byline and where he was bundled over by Musa Dibaga and the referee pointed to the spot. With Arron Lyall all sent to take the penalty the referee spotted the linesman flagging and after a brief consultation the decision was reversed.
