Impressive Performance From U14’s

Rangers 4 St.Mirren 0

Rangers Under 14’s turned in an impressive display to comfortably beat St Mirren at The Rangers Training Centre tonight. They pretty much controlled the game from start to finish limiting the visitors to a couple of chances over the game and could easily have scored a few more.

Rangers soon established superiority territorially but it was the quarter hour mark before The Saints keeper was tested, Max Cameron’s shot from the left hand angle of the box forcing the keeper to tip over. Two minutes later Rangers took the lead from the penalty spot, the referee judged Callum Stewart was fouled inside the left side of the box for what looked like a rather soft award but he stepped up to covert the penalty.

The lead was doubled on twenty five minutes, Max Cameron’s turn took him clear of a defender and he passed the ball to Luke Moore on the right, from his cross Callum Stewart headed past the keeper. In Rangers next attack Max Cameron was clearly brought down as he broke into the left hand angle of the box but the referee waved away the claims.

Rangers first chance of the second period came when Aidan Crilly released Rory McKay inside the right side of the penalty area but his shot was deflected wide of the far post. Rory McKay the put pressure on St Mirren’s defence inside their penalty area, won possession but poked the ball just wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

With ten minutes of the period remaining Rory McKay capitalised on a defensive mistake to take the ball wide of the keeper to his left and shoot into the unguarded net. St. Mirren immediately then had their first real chance of the match with Jayden Millarvie turning the shot from inside the left side of the penalty area wide of his right hand post.

Rangers then added a superb fourth goal, Callum Young in possession on the right hand angle passed inside to Ben Hutton who gave the keeper no chance as he fired into the top corner from the edge of the box. Rangers came close to adding to their tally on a couple of occasions before the period end. Ewan Gray’s shot from inside the right side of the box crashed off the underside of the bar. With St Mirren struggling to clear the ball broke to Aidan Crilly who’s shot came back off the keeper’s left hand post. The final effort of the period was from a Josh Carson free-kick on the edge of the box that was deflected over.

With Rory McKay attacking midway inside St Mirren’s half, when challenged by a defender the ball broke to Ewan Gray and his shot from the edge of the box the ball bounced off the keeper’s right hand post. The next chance came when the ball was switched to Ashton Patton who broke into the right side of the box and forced a save from the keeper low to his right.

Rangers had a couple of chances as the game entered the final ten minutes, Josh Carson forced a save from the keeper after he broke into the right side of the penalty area, The keeper was called into action again this time diving to his right to parry Oliver Preston’s shot from a narrow angle.

The final action saw a superb Jayden Millarvie save deny St Mirren a  consolation goal, the ball was moved from centre to the right side of the penalty area, when the shot came in the Rangers keeper dived to his right to turn the shot wide.
