U14’s Snatch Late Win

Kilmarnock 1 Rangers 2

Ben Hutton’s header with virtually the last touch of the game gave Rangers Under 14’s victory at The William McIlvanney Campus this morning. It was a bit harsh on the Killie side who would have been well worthy of a draw.

Rangers came close on nine minutes when Ashton Patton played in Callum Young inside the left side of the penalty area, he knocked the ball past the keeper but a defender was on hand to clear in front of goal. Six minutes before the end of the first period Rangers took the lead, the ball was played to Josh Carson right of centre and around twenty-five yards out, his cross come shot sailed over the keeper and into the net.

A couple of minutes later Euan Gray laid the ball back to Ben Hutton on the edge of the box and he shot just wide of the keeper’s right hand post. The second period saw few chances and it was the home side with the best chance early in the period, the ball broke to a Killie player inside and the box and the shot was just wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

Kilmarnock had a great chance to draw level in the opening minute of the third period, the initial attack came onto the left side of the box and when the shot came in Arron McAlonan dived to his let to turn the ball wide. From the corner the ball was handled by a Rangers defender and the referee pointed to the spot, the penalty was hit straight down the middle and Arron McAlonan made the save.

The home side another chance from inside the left side of the penalty area just before the period turn round but shot wide of the far post. The game was inside the final ten minutes when Kilmarnock drew level, a pass sent them through the middle of Rangers defence and the ball was prodded past Arron McAlonan.

With time almost up Rangers had a free-kick just wide of the right hand angle of the box, Louis Shaw swung the ball into the box and Ben Hutton rose to head past the keeper. The referee blew for time up when Killie restarted the game.
