Glasgow Cup Winning Colts

Rangers 3 Queens Park 1

After a competitive first half a dominant second half display saw Rangers Colts lift the Glasgow Cup at Broadwood Stadium last night.

There was only three minutes on the clock when a superb run and cross from Robbie Fraser on the left was matched by Cole McKinnon’s finish arriving into the box and firing into the keeper’s top left hand corner. Within a minute Scott Williamson had the ball in the net for Queens but he was flagged offside.

The sides were level on twenty-three minutes, Scott Williamson progressed on the right where he cut the ball back for Dylan Ruiz Diaz to shoot past Lewis Budinauckas. Rangers came close a couple of minutes later, Kane Ritchie-Hosler teeing up Adam Devine inside the right side of the penalty area but the full back’s shot was just wide of the far post.

An even better chance was passed up a couple of minutes before the half-hour mark, Charlie McCann sent Robbie Fraser down the left and another superb cross picked out Tony Weston but the striker headed over. With the half heading for the final five minutes Tony Weston passed to Charlie McCann on the edge of the box, he tried to pass the ball into the net but the lack of power allowed Jacques Heraghty to save low to his left.

The final chance of the half came when Charlie McCann went past two defenders as he attacked the Queens Park penalty area and he played in Ross McCausland inside the right side of the box but he shot across goal and wide.

Rangers had the first chance of the second half, persistent play from Ross McCausland inside the right side of the penalty area saw a couple of efforts blocked, the ball broke to Charlie McCann who’s shot looked net bound until Max Gillies made a fine block. At the other end Dylan Ruiz Diaz broke into the right side of the box but shot wide of the far post.

Just before the hour mark Murray Miller tried his luck from fully thirty yards that had Jacques Hegarty stretching to tip over. With twenty-five minutes remaining Robbie Fraser found himself on the right following a corner and passed to Kane Ritchie-Hosler, he fired the ball across goal and Lee Kilday while attempting to clear knocked the ball towards his own goal and forcing a save from Jacques Heraghty.

A minute later Ross McCausland broke on the left and passed to Robbie Ure inside the left side of the box and he forced a save from Jacques Heraghty at his near post. Rangers took the lead on sixty-nine minutes, Queens were struggling to clear and after a few blocked shots Robbie Ure got the final touch on a Charlie McCann shot to guide the ball past Jacques Heraghty.

With a quarter hour remaining Rangers extended their lead from the penalty spot. Stuart Morrison was bit short with his pass back to Jacques Heraghty and when Robbie Ure got to the ball before him the keeper brought him down for a clear penalty, Charlie McCann stepped up and blasted the penalty past the keeper. There was six minutes remaining when Robbie Ure dribbled past two defenders inside the box with Jacques Heraghty saving low to his left.

Queens Park came close to cutting Rangers lead to a single goal when Ronan Darcy’s thirty yarder beat Lewis Budinauckas but came back off the crossbar.
