Colts Hit Clyde For Nine

Rangers 9 Clyde 0

Rangers Colts blew a Clyde side away in tonight’s Glasgow cup tie at Rangers Training Centre. It may not have been close to a full strength Clyde side but the young Rangers side were relentless in their pursuit of goals.

Rangers took the lead on six minutes, some great play from Arron Lyall as he attacked the box saw him play through Tony Weston inside the left side of the penalty area and shot across the keeper into the net. Rangers continued to dominate possession and territorially but there was thirty five minutes on the clock when Ross McCausland cut inside a defender and shot at the keeper from the edge of the box.

A couple of minutes later Rangers doubled their lead, Tony Weston raced clear, the Trialist keeper saved his shot but Ross McCausland followed up to net the rebound. On the stroke of half-time Rangers grabbed a third from the penalty spot. When the ball was played forward a slip by a Clyde defender allowed Ross McCausland race clear, the trialist keeper blocked his shot with a foot and forced him wide. He passed inside to Tony Weston who was brought down inside the box with Cole McKinnon stepping up to convert the penalty.

Half-Time:- Rangers 3 Clyde 0

Rangers added to their tally eight minutes into the second half, Kane Ritchie-Hosler intercepted a pass and hit the right hand byline from where he played the ball across goal for Arron Lyall to net. Only another four minutes had passed when Rangers scored again, from Adam Devine’s cross from the right saw Tony Weston rise to head the ball back across the keeper and into the net.

The goals kept coming and there was sixty-three minutes on the clock when Robbie Fraser advanced on the left, his cross was dummied by Kane Ritchie-Hosler allowing Cole McKinnon to slam the ball into the net from around the penalty spot.

With twelve minutes remaining Rangers scored a seventh, Charlie Lindsay in possession on the left hand angle of the box passing inside to Darren McInally to beat the keeper from the edge of the box. Two minutes later Adam Devine hit the right hand byline, Charlie Lindsay looked certain to score from his ball across goal but was denied by a superb point blank save from the keeper.

The respite didn’t last long with Rangers adding a further two goals in the final three minutes. First up Charlie Lindsay got the better of the keeper on an one on one when he was played through. It was Charlie Lindsay again who completed the scoring, exchanging passes with Robbie Fraser on the left side of the box before beating the keeper from a narrow angle.
