U18’s Ease Through To Semi Finals

Rangers 4 Aberdeen 1

Rangers Under 18’s comfortably progressed to the Youth Cup Semi Finals with a win over Aberdeen at The Rangers Training Centre tonight. Already a goal up at the break, two early goals in the second half finished the tie and replicated the scoreline from last week’s league game.

Rangers took the lead in the opening minute, Darren McInally’s chipped pass picked out Jack Harkness deep inside the right side of the penalty area and he cut the ball back for Robbie Ure to knock past the keeper. Aberdeen equalised just beyond the quarter hour mark, a corner from the left was sent into the box and Blair McKenzie rose to bullet a header past Jack McConnell.

Just before the half-hour Robbie Ure’s pass sent Tyler Pasnik through, but his first touch was a bit heavy which allowed Blessing Oluyemi to advanced from goal and block the attacker’s shot on the edge of the box. Rangers were back in front on thirty-four minutes, Mackenzie Strachan’s corner from the right was side footed past the keeper by Greig Allen from around six yards.

Seven minutes before the break Darren McInally picked out Jack Harkness deep inside the right side of the box but he shot across goal and wide of the far post.

The second half was barely two minutes old when Rangers extended their lead, neat play between Tyler Pasnik and Darren McInally saw the latter provide the pass to send Rory Wilson clear to shoot past Blessing Oluyemi. Less than ten minutes later only a superb save prevented Rangers scoring a fourth, Darren McInally in possession inside the left side of the penalty area, he chipped the ball to the back post where Robbie Ure looked certain to score but Blessing Oluyemi produced a stunning point black save from the striker’s header.

The tie was effectively made safe on the hour mark when Tyler Pasnik broke from just inside the Aberdeen half and shot past the keeper from the edge of the box. Rangers had a final chance right at the death, a ball over the Aberdeen defence released Rory Wilson who lobbed the advancing keeper but Findlay Murray got back to clear just before the referee blew the final whistle.
