Colts Hit Five

Rangers 5 Broomhill FC 1

Rangers Colts put five past Broomhill FC at Dumbarton this afternoon and in all honesty it could easily have been double that.

Rangers dominated the early play but there was fourteen minutes on the clock before the Broomhill goal was seriously threatened, Alex Lowry provided the pass inside Jordan Duncan to release Cole McKinnon who’s shot from inside the right side of the penalty area was pushed behind his near post by Jamie Smith. Three minutes later Rangers took the lead with a superb goal, Alex Lowry picked out Robbie Fraser wide on the left and a great first touch took him clear to cross from the byline and Tony Weston arrived to fire past the keeper.

Within a couple of minutes Rangers doubled their lead, a short corner on the right was played to Charlie McCann on the right hand angle of the box and he stepped forward to fire a shot into the net. Six minutes before the break Robbie Fraser passed inside to Alex Lowry and his first time pass saw a bit of hesitancy in the Broomhill defence which Ross McCausland pounced on inside the left side of the box but he was denied by Jamie Smith.

Two minutes later the visitors reduced the deficit, a corner from the right broke to Jack McCalman who laid it back to Findlay Gray who found the net from around twelve yards. There was still time time for a sensational Alex Lowry pass to send Adam Devine clear, he continued into the box with Jamie Smith advancing from his line to block with his legs.

Charlie McCann was the provider of the first chance of the second half with a pass to Ross McCausland inside the right side of the penalty area and he forced a save from Jamie Smith. The next threat to the Broomhill goal came from their own player, Robbie Fraser’s corner from the right saw Reagan O’Sullivan slice his attempted clearance and the ball clipped the crossbar on the way over.

Within sixty seconds Rangers scored a third, Cole McKinnon providing a cross from the right for Kyle McClelland to power a header past the keeper at the back post. Lewis Budinauckas was then called into action, stretching to clay away Justin Devenney’s free-kick from the right.

Rangers response was to score a fourth barely sixty second later, Alex Lowry intercepted a poor pass from Jack McCalman inside the penalty area, hit the left hand byline before picking out Charlie McCann for a simple finish. Number five soon followed and again it was a disaster for Jack McCalman, his pass back being intercepted by Tony Weston who calmly slotted the ball past Jamie Smith.

With five minutes remaining Charlie McCann exchanged passes with Kane Ritchie-Hosler to break into the right side of the box, he tried to beat Jamie Smith from a very tight angle but the keeper stood up to make the block. Jamie Smith then produced the save of the match to deny Rangers a sixth, Leon King’s pass picked out Tony Weston inside the right side of the penalty area, he stepped inside a defender and his net bound shot was turned wide of his left hand post by the diving keeper.
