U18’s Defeated In Opening League Game

Dundee United 3 Rangers 1

It was a disappointing display and result as Rangers Under 18’s suffered a defeat in their opening league game against Dundee United at St.Andrews University this afternoon.  They probably edged possession in the first half but carried little threat, where as the home side could have added to their first half tally. After getting back into the game from a Rory Wilson goal they lost a really poor third goal which killed the game.

Dundee United took the lead on twelve minutes, Rory McLeod won the ball from Ryan Duncan just outside the United box and he sent Fin Malcolm racing down the left, he went past Kristian Webster before shooting under Jack McConnell. The lead was doubled nine minutes later, a shot from the edge of the box deflected into the path of Fin Malcolm inside the right side of the penalty area and he drilled the ball past  Jack McConnell.

Rangers had created little in terms of chances, their best coming just after the half hour mark, Ryan Duncan fed Rory Wilson who broke into the right side of the box but Ruairdh Adams saved easily at his near post.  The home side had a couple of chances in the final five minutes of the half. Bryan Mwangi in possession on the right hand byline laid the ball back to Craig Moore but his shot was straight at Jack McConnell. A long ball down the right then released Stuart Heenan who entered the box and it took a fine save from Jack McConnell, standing up to make the block.

Half-Time:- Dundee United 2 Rangers 0

A couple of minutes before the hour Greig Allen played the ball forward to Kyle Semple whose twenty-five yard strike was powerful but straight at Ruairdh Adams. Rangers got back in the game with twenty-five minutes remaining, Jack Roberts broke in the the right side of the box and forced a save from Ruairdh Adams, the keeper again excelled on Rory Wilson’s follow up but the Rangers striker followed up to nod the ball into the net.

Less than ten minutes later United restored their two goal lead, from Layton Bisland’s low cross from the right the Rangers  defence was hesitant leaving the clearance to each other which allowed Dom Naglik to find the net from around six yards.#
