18’s Overcome Killie And The Conditions

 Rangers 2 Kilmarnock 0

Rangers Under 18’s made it two wins from two in the youth league with a win over Kilmarnock on a rain soaked pitch at The Hummel Training Centre tonight. It was a comfortable win with Killie failing to seriously trouble Lewis Budinauckas over the ninety minutes.

The first real dangerous incident cam on thirteen minutes, Alex Lowry switched play to Ross McAusland on the right and he hit the byline before crossing low with Keir Russell sliding in to clear for a corner. Just over ten minutes later Harris O’Connor headed the ball into the Killie box and Matty Yates managed to get a shot away which Harry Broun save comfortably.

On the half-hour Harris O’Connor passed to Ross McAusland and his shot from the right hand angle of the box forced Harry Broun to save low to his right. Two minutes later Adam Devine took a shot corner on the left to Ciaran Dickson and his shot from the left hand angle of the box was deflected wide.

Six minutes before the break Matty Yates fired a twenty-five yard free-kick and left of centre just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Lewis Budinauckas had virtually been a spectator but in the conditions Steven Warnock’s thirty yard free-kick could have been troublesome but the Rangers keeper displayed impeccable handling with the ball bouncing just in front of him.

Rangers took the lead on the stroke of half-time, Ross McAusland went past Jake Willis and into the right side of the box, his shot had Harry Broun at full stretch diving to his right to parry but the keeper was helpless as Alex Lowry followed up to score from the rebound.

The second half had reached it’s midpoint when Rangers doubled their lead, Aaron Lyall attacked the Killie box leaving two defenders in his wake before played in Chris McKee deep inside the right side of the box and he shot past the keeper. With the game inside the final quarter hour Kane Ritchie-Hosler worked along the right hand byline, his cut back found it’s way to Matthew Henderson inside the left side of the penalty area but he shot straight at the keeper.

The final chance came with five minutes remaining, Aaron Lyall danced past three defenders on the left hand byline, his cutback picked out Chris McKee who was denied by a fine point blank save from Harry Broun.
