Reserves Open Pre-Season With A Win

Rangers 3 Partick Thistle 1

A Rangers reserves side recorded a comfortable win over what was a slightly younger Partick Thiste side at The Hummell Training Centre on Saturday afternoon. None of the twenty-two players who were involved in Friday nights game took part.

Rangers first chance came on seven minutes when Harry Forrester’s pass sent And Dallas through the inside right channel but he failed to get the ball under control and the chance was lost. Two minutes later Rangers took the lead, Liam Burt’s pass inside the left back allowed Jordan Houston to hit the right hand byline and his cutback picked out Andy Dallas to net from close range.

Midway through the half Harry Forrester’s cross from the left picked out Danny Finlayson at the back post who headed just wide. Just after the half hour mark Rangers were awarded a penalty when Andy Dallas was tripped as he chased the ball to the left hand byline but Stephen Kelly blazed the spot-kick over.

Within in minutes Thistle were level, the ball was played up to the attacker on the edge of the box and a neat turn created the space to shoot past Kieran Wright. Just before the break Stephen Kelly’s pass inside the left-back allowed Jordan Houston to break into the Thistle box but he was denied when the keeper blocked the shot with his foot.

There was barely a minute on the clock in the second half when Rangers took the lead, Stephen Kelly, Myes Beerman and Scott Gray combined on the left, and when the latter’s low cross arrived at the foot of Liam Burt arriving at the back post he shot past the keeper.

The second- half was mainly noted for a series of substitutions from both sides until Rangers added a third with a persistant attack on the seventy-eighth minute. Intiially the ball was worked to the right side of the penalty area where Josh McPake forced a fine save from the Thistle keeper. When the ball was returned to Josh McPake on the right his cross found Rhys Breen at the back post, he headed back across goal but the ball bounced of the inside of the far post. The ball was cleared from the penalty area as far as Kai Kennedy who picked out Scott Gray inside the left side  of the penalty area and he shot across the keeper and into the net.
