Win Secures Place In Glasgow Cup Final

Partick Thistle 1 Rangers 3

Rangers under 17’s went into tonight’s Glasgow Cup tie at Lochinch knowing a point would be enough to secure a place in the final. The Ibrox youngsters recorded a comfortable win to remove any doubt.

Chances were few in the early stages and the half had reached the midpoint when Rangers had a great chance to open the scoring. Kai Kennedy was brought down as he broke into the left side of the penalty area, he could have struck the penalty firmer but the ball was placed well in the corner and Luke Scullion produced a fine save diving low to his left. Rangers took the lead four minutes later, Ben Williamson passed to Josh McPake on the left, he attacked the penalty area and when his attempted pass broke back to him off Andy Rodden he shot past Luke Scullion.

Seven minutes before the break Kai Kennedy picked the ball up around twenty-five yards out and right of centre with his effort clipping the crossbar on the way over. Just before the break Kai Kennedy exchanged passes with Ben Williamson before shooting from distance that Luke Scullion got down to his right to save.

Thistle had the ball in the net early in the second half but Jordan Kemoe had used a hand to convert the cross and was yellow carded. The home side did miss a great opportunity just before the hour, Jamie Walker got to the byline on the left and his cross found Brad Renfrew arriving at the back post but he headed across goal and wide of the far post.

Rangers responded by doubling their lead, the attack started with Dapo Mebude breaking into the right side of the box and was denied when Luke Scullion saved at the near post. The corner on the right was taken short and Josh McPake went past a defender on the byline before crossing low for Ciaran Dickson to convert from close range.

With the game entering the final quarter-hour Dapo Mebude attacked on the right, his cut back found Matty Yates who was thwarted by the legs of Luke Scullion. Rangers scored a superb third with eight minutes remaining, Nathan Patterson’s brilliant pass picked out the run of Ciaran Dickson and a great first touch allowed him to go past Luke Scullion and roll the ball into the net.
