Second Half Collapse

Rangers 1 Leicester City 6

Having probably edged the first half with the teams going in all square it was a surprise and a disappointment to witness a second half collapse that saw Rangers lose five goals and never real threaten a reply.

Rangers got off to the worst possible start falling behind in the second minute. Tyrese Shade passed to Conor Tee wide and the left and when Michael Hewitt slipped it allowed him a free run into the box to shoot across Aidan McAdams and into the net. Rangers came close to drawing level on eleven minutes, Myles Beerman broke on the left and passed inside to Serge Atakayi who’s shot was deflected just wide of the far post.

On the quarter-hour mark Rangers got the leveller from the penalty spot. Ryan Hardie was heading away from goal when he chased a ball inside the left side of the box but was flattened by Calvin Ughelumba for a clear penalty that the Rangers striker duly converted. Midway through the half Sammie McLeod won possession and broke forward before passing to Tyrese Shade he cut inside Lewis Mayo but shot just wide of the far post.

Rangers won a free-kick a couple of minutes after the half-hour mark, just outside the box and right of centre, Myles Beerman stepped up and his low shot forced Rhys Davies to save low to his left and Zak Rudden was flagged offside as he went for the rebound. Just before the break Stephen Kelly won the ball and played it forward to Ryan Hardie who’s twenty-five yarder beat Rhys Davies but bounced off his right hand post.

The visitors came out on the front foot and the half was eight minutes old when a neat passing move ended with Kian Williams passing to Sammie McLeod who’s shot from the edge of the box forced a save from Aidan McAdams. A minute later Kian Williams fed Tyrese Shade inside the left side and the penalty area and his shot squeezed under Aidan McAdams.

Just after the hour Cammy Palmer’s pass put Danny Finlayson under pressure and he was dispossessed on the edge of the box by Conor Tee who continued into the box to shoot past Aidan McAdams, Within a minute Leicester scored a forth, Rubyn Gill’s superb thirty yard strike rebound off Aidan McAdams right and post and Conor Tee was on hand to complete his hat-trick.

As the final five minutes approached Sammie McLeod played the ball to Tom Fielding inside the left side of the box and he shot across Aidan McAdams and into the far corner. The Rangers keeper was in action two minutes later, diving high to his left to push away Morgan Brown’s shot from the edge of the box.

The scoring was complete when Leicester broke quickly from a Rangers corner, Morgan Brown breaking down the left and continuing into the penalty area before squaring for Tom Fielding to fire into the net.
