16’s Edge Out Hibs

Rangers 2 Hibernian 1

A Rangers U16 side with U17 Lewis Morgan edged out their Hibs counterparts with the odd goal in three at a windy Murray Park tonight. The visitor’s had the first effort on goal after eleven minutes with a shot from the edge of the box that Robbie McCrorie dived to his left to parry.

Two minutes later Rangers took the lead, Ben Reilly played Ryan Hardie through the inside right channel and he continued into the box and beat the keeper with a cool finish in off the far post. The same player almost doubled Rangers lead on the half-hour, attacking from the right side of the penalty area but this time the keeper diverted his shot wide of the far post with his legs.

A minute later the Hibernian keeper called to come and collect Lewis Morgan’s cross from the left and was relieved to see the ball go wide of the far post when he failed to gather. Right on the half-time whistle Ben Reilly made an enterprising run from full-back before passing to Dylan Stevenson, the visitor’s central defender failed to see Ryan Hardie’s late arrival into the box but his effort was just wide of the keeper’s right hand post.

Half-Time:- Rangers 1 Hibernian 0

Three minutes after the break a great run saw Dylan Stevenson progress on the left, his cross was deflected towards the byline on the right where Lewis Morgan gathered and tested the keeper from a narrow angle. With just over ten minutes of the half gone the visitors equalised, a solo run from their centre forward took him past two defenders to the edge of the box from where his shot found the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Rangers regained the lead on sixty-five minutes, Ryan Hardie was the creator with a great run and cross from the right to find Adam Wilson arriving to volley past the keeper from the edge of the six yard box. Hibs replied with a lob over the Rangers defence to the right side of the box with Robbie McCrorie coming from his line to block with his legs.

With ten minutes remaining Hibs attacked down the left and when the cut back from the byline came in only a superb point-blank save from Robbie McCrorie kept Rangers lead intact. Rangers replied when Lewis Morgan cut in from the right and a deflection saw the ball just clear the Hibernian crossbar. In the dying seconds an Andy McKinnon pass sent the Trialist through with the Hibs keeper doing enough to divert the ball wide of his left hand post.
