13’s At Stenhousemuir Tournament

A narrow defeat to Everton meant Rangers had to settle for second place in the in Stenhousemuir tournament today. The Ochilview club welcomed parents, supporters and even casual observers to the five team round robin event, with all teams playing each other once. Each game was played over thirty minutes.

Rangers edged out Dundee United by the only goal in their opening game, it came when Dylan Patterson collected the ball on the left hand side of the box and sent a shot high past the keeper into the net. Rangers came close to a second when the ball was worked from right to left from Aaron Mooney via Stephen Kelly to Dylan Patterson with the united keeper saving well. The keeper was again called into action when he got down to save a long-range Jordan Houston effort. United played some neat football but lacked any penetration and Lewis Muir wasn’t troubled in the Rangers goal.

Rangers 5 Hutchison Vale 0

Next up for Rangers were top Edinburgh boys club Hutchison Vale with Rangers running out comfortable winners. The opener came when Jordan Houston’s header from a corner on the right squeezed between a defender and keeper on the line. Scott Gray then tried his luck from distance which the keeper parried but only into the path of Zak Rudden who fired home.

Carlo Pigniatello was next to have an effort on goal, going past a defender on the left side of the box his shot was touched on to the bar and over by the Hutchie keeper. The third goal soon came along, when Zak Rudden helped on a cross from the right, Nathan Patterson gathered before sidestepping a defender and firing past the keeper.

Nathan Patterson returned the compliment by creating the fourth goal, making his way to the byline on the right before squaring the ball across goal for Zak Rudden to net. Scoring was complete when Cammy Wray broke forward before playing in Zak Rudden to complete his hat-trick.

Rangers came close taking the lead when Jordan Houston’s free-kick broke of the defensive wall to Zak Rudden with the Everton keeper   diving to his left to produce a fine save, Carlo Pigniatello followed up to send a shot off the left hand post. The English side took the lead against the run of play, when the ball was played to the edge of Rangers box a good first touch and turn allowed a shot high into the net  that gave Lewis Muir no chance.

When the ball was cleared to the edge of the Everton box it gave Cammy Palmer a chance, his shot was powerful but was just too straight and the keeper saved. Everton then worked an opening down the right but the shot was too high and cleared the crossbar.

Rangers completed their games with a comfortable win against the hosts. The first goal came when Nathan Patterson sent Jordan Houston down the right. His cross found Jamie Walker at the back post, the keeper blocked his initial effort but he knocked the rebound into the net. Rangers doubled their lead when the home keeper’s clearance was knocked back into the box by a defender where Matthew Sheils was left unmarked to shoot into the net.
