Rangers under 14’s were virtually in control from start to finish in the game against Inverness Caley Thistle at Murray Park this afternoon, but it took a goal flurry deep into the third period to make the game safe.

Rangers created a few opportunities in the opening fifteen minutes but either failed to hit the target or the shot was weak and the visitor’s keeper dealt with them comfortably. This was highlighted again on eighteen minutes when Dean Pitchens made progress on the right side of the box but shot into the side netting.

Five minutes before the end of the first period Lewis Ferguson delivered a free-kick from the left which Aidan Wilson rose to head just wide of the keepers right hand post. A minute later a great run on the left by Jack Morgan took him past two defenders but he shot across goal and wide of the far post.

A couple of minutes into the second period Aidan Wilson broke forward from the back and played a couple of one-twos before going for goal and a deflection off an Inverness defender took it just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. The defender came closer still two minutes later, he began the move with a pass to Sam Jamieson who took on the Caley defence on the left side of the penalty area, leaving two defenders in his wake his cut-back found Aidan Wilson and a goal looked certain until a defender popped up to clear from the line.

On a rare forage forward Rangers had keeper Lewis Muir to thank for keeping them on level terms. Initially Wallace Duffy did well to disposes the Caley attacker only to then lose possession deep inside his own penalty area, but his was rescued when keeper Lewis Muir blocked at close range. Rangers then capitalised by taking the lead in the fortieth minute, Liam Burt played a free-kick from the right up to Aidan Wilson at the edge of the box, he turned and shot and with the aid of a deflection the ball looped into the top corner.

Five minutes later Sam Jamieson side-stepped a defender at the edge of the box before playing in Blair Docherty  with the Caley keeper saving with his legs. The next chance came from a Ben Andoh corner from the right, but Wallace Duffy didn’t quite connect properly and the keeper saved. The second goal was only delayed a further minute, Sam Jamieson attacked the penalty area and a one-two with Ben Andoh sent him free to slot past the keeper. The visitors then pulled a goal back right on the whistle to end the second period, when the ball was played through the centre of the Rangers defence the striker looked clearly offside, but he was allowed to continue to round Lewis Muir and reduce the deficit.

Rangers started the third period on the attack and good play on the right by Kieran ????? and a cutback to Sam Jamieson brought out a save low to his left from the Inverness keeper. Rangers regained their two goal advantage just before the turn round in the third period and it was a great individual effort. Sam Jamieson collected the ball in midfield and went past a defender before beating the keeper from around twenty-five yards.

In the final five minutes Rangers scored another couple of goals to put a more realistic reflection on their superiority. Aidan Wilson split the defence with a superb pass to send Jay Willis through on the left side of the box and he slotted the ball past the keeper. Jay Willis then went passed a defender on the left side of the box before the second defender took his legs from him for a clear penalty, and he coolly stepped up to convert from the spot.
