15’s Edge Out Aberdeen

Rangers 1 Aberdeen 0

A Jamie Barjonas goal was enough for Rangers under 15’s to edge out Aberdeen in an entertaining game at Murray Park this afternoon. The visitors were the first to threaten after six minutes with an attack through the centre of Rangers defence and Robbie McCrorie dived to his right to turn the ball wide of his post. Rangers broke quickly from the corner, Josh Jeffries passing to Jamie Barjonas on the right, his crossfield pass gave John Cunningham a chance on the left side of the penalty area , he knocked it past the advancing keeper but wide of the left hand post.

John Cunningham was soon chasing a ball over the top of the Aberdeen defence but the visitor’s keeper was quick from his line to save at the striker’s feet. Just before the quarter-hour mark he surpassed that with a point-blank save, Max Ashmore sent the ball out to Josh Jeffries on the left, he advanced to the byline and cut the ball back across goal where John Cunningham made space to turn and shoot with the keeper blocking with his legs.

Next up was a surging run forward from Lewis White taking him past two defenders and into the box before going for goal with the keeper saving low at his right hand post. At the other end a free-kick on the left hand angle of the box broke to the Aberdeen player in front of goal, and Robbie McCrorie did well to block at close range and the danger was cleared.

A couple of minutes before the break Rangers took the lead, Josh Jeffries made space to shoot at the edge of the box which the keeper dived to his right to parry, John Cunningham collected the ball on the byline and played it back into the middle, with the Aberdeen defence struggling to clear, the ball landed at the feet of Jamie Barjonas who fired into the net from just inside the box.

Rangers had the bulk of possession in the early part of the second half but without creating any real goalscoring opportunities, as the half wore on the visitors came more into the game and had what was probably the best two chances of the half.

With just less than quarter of an hour remaining an attack down the right saw the ball played low into the box and a deflection took it into the path of an attacker, but he failed to connect properly and Robbie McCrorie save comfortably. With six minutes remaining a throw in on the left was knocked into the danger area where it was played towards goal and Robbie McCrorie dived to his left to parry.
