Kelty Hearts 1 Rangers 1

A Rangers under 18 side with Blair Currie in goal secured a draw with Kelty Hearts in Stefan Winiarski’s Testimonial at Central Park, Kelty this afternoon.

The home side had the better of the opening exchanges and an attack down the right created the first opportunity with Blair Currie saving low to his right. The Rangers keeper was in action again on the quarter-hour mark when the home side worked their way to the byline on the right, when the ball was cutback a goal looked certain until Blair Currie diverted the ball wide of his left hand post.

The goal was only delayed sixty seconds and following another attack down the right when the ball was crossed into the box Craig Halkett headed clear, but it was met on the half-volley at the edge of the box and the ball found the net through a crowded penalty area. Rangers first real effort on goal came around the half-hour mark when trialist Travis Gregory picked the ball up around thirty yards from goal left of centre, he cut inside and stepped forward before testing the keeper from the edge of the box.

A few minutes before the break the home keeper was called upon again, this time it was Jamie Burrows cutting in from the right past a defender before forcing a save from the keeper low to his left.

The second half had a similar start to the first with the home side having the upper hand, from an attack down the left Blair Currie had to be alert to save at his near post. A carbon copy attack a few minutes later had a similar outcome, this Blair Currie parried the powerful shot at his near post.

Rangers replied with an attack down their left, Jamie Mills played a one-two with Danny Stoney and his cross to the back post was headed back across goal by Stuart Urquhart and wide of the post.A minute later Dylan Dykes gained possession on the right hand side of the box and the Kelty keeper saved low to his right.

With just over fifteen minutes on the clock Rangers got back on level terms via the penalty spot, when the pass was played into the box from the right Danny Stoney turned the defender and was fouled. Dylan Dykes stepped up fire the ball  to the keeper’s left and it found the net despite the keepers valiant effort.

With five minutes remaining only a superb save denied Rangers a winner, when the ball was played through on the right side of the box Danny Stoney won possession as the defender tried to shepherd the ball back, from his shot the keeper somehow diverted the ball onto the bar and over.
