Comfortable Win For Youths

Rangers 3 Dundee United 0

After last week’s defeat at Aberdeen, Rangers Under 19’s got back to winning ways with a comfortable win against Dundee United at Murray Park this morning.

There was fifteen minutes on the clock before the first real chance was created, Kamil Wiktorski’s pass sending Barrie McKay through in the inside right channel and keeper Phillip Anderson dived to his left to parry. Ten minutes later Darren Ramsay broke from his own half before testing Anderson from the edge of the box.

The home side took the lead three minutes before the break, Kyle McAusland played the ball forward to Darren Ramsay on the right, he cut into the penalty area before poking the ball goalwards and Fraser Aird got a touch at the edge of the six yard box to knock the ball past Anderson. Rangers came close to doubling their lead on the stroke of half-time, Fraser Aird crossed from the left and a poor defensive header fell to Robbie Crawford at the edge of the box and his shot was just wide of Anderson’s right hand post with the keeper beaten.

Seven minutes after the break the visitors had to make a change in goal with Dean Easton replacing Phillip Anderson, the replacement was in action immediately when Barrie McKay latched and to a long ball with keeper Easton coming off his line to save. At the other end good play on the right by Ryan Ferguson and a pass inside setup a shooting chance for Ryan Gauld and his effort was just wide of Alan Smith’s right hand post.

A minute later Rangers doubled their lead, Jamie Burrows held off a defender as he latched on to Darren Ramsay’s through ball and strode into the box to shoot past Dean Easton. With just over ten minutes remaining Jamie Burrows got a flick on to a free-kick from halfway and Barrie McKay’s volley flashed past Easton’s left hand post.

The third goal was delayed barely sixty seconds, Robbie Crawford’s cross from the left found Barrie McKay inside the box, he lobbed the ball over Easton before nodding it into the empty net. United almost got a consolation goal right at the end, Scott Smith broke from midfield and Alan Smith did well to hold on and prevent his deflected shot crossing the line.
