17’s Edge Out Motherwell

Rangers Under 17’s edged out Motherwell in an entertaining game at Murray Park tonight. It was a young Rangers side with Craig Halkett and Charlie Telfer being the only 2nd years in the squad.

The visitors had the first real chance after fifeteen minutes when Greg Pascazio slipped and it left the Motherwell striker clear but a heavy touch allowed Liam Kelly to come out and gather easily. Eight minutes later Kelly got down to his right to save a shot from 25yards.

Motherwell continued to threaten and Rangers keeper Liam Kelly blocked a shot with his legs after the visitors worked a chance on the left hand side of the box. Rangers took the lead just after the half-hour, Dylan Dykes played the ball forward to CharlieTelfer and his pass freed Danny Stoney inside the box to shoot past the keeper.

Motherwell came close again before the break after a move down the right, and a shot at the far post after a low cross was just wide of Kelly’s right hand post.

Six minutes after the break Telfer fed Scott Roberts on the right, Danny Stoney latched on to his low cross at the back post and the Motherwell keeper diverted his shot wide for a corner. Two minutes later when  ‘Well broke forward a break of the ball sent them clear on the right hand side of the penalty box and Kelly had to dive to his right to save.

The Rangers keeper Kelly bettered that with a brilliant save just after the hour, Ryan Sinnamon was dispossessed inside the box but Kelly not only stopped but held the shot at point blank range. The ball went straight to the other end and Danny Stoney latched on to a slack pass back and found the corner of the net with a great finish.

The visitors got the consolation goal they deserved with three minutes on the clock, it was a fine first time finish from a left wing cross that gave keeper Kelly no chance.
