Youths Meet Stirling Albion

Rangers 4 Stirling Albion 1

A Rangers team made up of mainly Under 18 players took on Stirling Albion’s Under 19’s at Murray Park. In difficult wet and windy conditions Rangers ran out comfortable winners.

It took almost twenty minutes for either side to master the conditions and create a chance and it was the home side’s Callum Wyllie cutting in from the right before shooting narrowly over.  For minutes later Rangers took the lead, the goal was constructed down the left by Robbie McIntyre and Matty Clarke, when the ball was passed inside to Sam McMahon he superbly sidestepped a defender before shooting past the keeper from just inside the box.

It wasn’t until the stroke of half-time that either goal was troubled again, with Matty Clarke heading just wide of the keepers left hand post from Callum Wyllie’s cross from the right.

Ten minutes after the break only a good Blair Currie save kept Rangers lead intact, saving low to his left after good play down the left created the chance. Rangers doubled their lead on the hour mark, Ants Marenghi fed the overlapping Robbie McIntyre on the left and the keeper found his shot too hot to handle as he fumbled the ball over the line.

A minute later Marenghi was denied by the woodwork after he cut in from the right past two defenders, his shot clipping the bar on the way over.  Rangers grabbed a third on 70 minutes, McMahon sending Marc Dyer through on goal, he continued into the box before firing home.

Five minutes later it was number four, substitute Jamie Burrows was sent clear and found the net with a great finish across the keeper. The visitors got a deserved goal back with seven minutes remaining, a neat passing move taking them through the centre of Rangers defence and shooting past Currie.

There was still time for McMahon to progress down the right before playing the ball inside to Burrows, the young striker unselfishly setup Matty Clarke for what looked like a certain goal but he shot wide.
