Reserves Lose At The Orium

Hearts 2 Rangers 1

Rangers reserves lost a tight game by the odd goal in three against Hearts at The Orium this afternoon. The game was fairly even over the ninety minutes and could have gone either way.

Early chances were at a premium and the game had almost reached the midpoint of the half when a great turn from Josh McPake allowed him to break into the left side of the Hearts penalty area but a heavy touch gave Colin Doyle the chance to save at the attacker’s feet and the ball was cleared for a corner. Just after the midpoint Hearts took the lead, they were awarded a free-kick just outside the left side of the box and close to the byline. It was driven into the six yard box at waist height by Harry Cochrane and Harris O’Connor stooped in an attempt to head clear but diverted the ball past Aidan McAdams for an Own Goal.

The home side then threatened a couple of times before the break. First Tony McDonald broke int the left side of the penalty area but shot narrowly over. Then Harry Cochrane had a go from a free-kick on the left hand angle of the box that forced Niko Katic to head over his own crossbar.

Half- Time:- Hearts 1 Rangers 0

Nine minutes into the second half Stephen Kelly tried to pick out James Maxwell’s run into the box and with Colin Doyle coming from his line Alex Petkov’s header almost went over the keeper, but he stretched and just managed to hold on. It only took Rangers a further three minutes to draw level, the ball was worked out to Harris O’Connor on the right and when his cross arrived knee height at Andy Dallas he volleyed into the net via the near post.

Rangers should have taken the lead just after the hour, from a free-kick close to the byline on the left Stephen Kelly sent it towards the back post where Niko Katic headed the ball down into the six yard box, Danny Finlayson didn’t quite connect properly which allowed Colin Doyle to scramble clear with the Rangers players claiming the ball had cross the line.

Hearts grabbed what proved to be the winner with nine minutes remaining, Lewis Moore attacked the centre of Rangers defence going past two defenders before releasing Euan Henderson inside the left side of the penalty area and he shot across Aidan McAdams into the far corner.
