19’s Beat Icelandic Visitors

A Rangers Under 19’s side supplemented by Jordan Rossiter had a comfortable victory over the Under 19’s of Icelandic side Breidablik at Auchenhowie this afternoon. A double from Glenn Middleton and goals from Myles Beerman and Stephen Kelly saw the Rangers youngsters run out worthy winners.

Rangers took the lead on the quarter-hour mark, Jordan Houston played the ball forward to Glenn Middleton on the right and he cut inside before hitting a powerful shot off the near post and into the net. Rangers continued to have the bulk of the play and came close to increasing their lead in the final ten minutes of the half. Glenn Middleton won possession and broke into the right side of the box with keeper Elias Olafsson diverting the ball wide of the far post with his foot.

Six minutes before the break Jamie Barjonas won possession and his twenty-five yard effort was only just to high. Then when a cross was headed from the Breidablik box Jamie Barjonas met it on the volley and it came back of the right hand post with the keeper beaten.

Rangers doubled their lead early in the second half, a superb Zak Rudden turn on the right hand angle of the box allowed him to hit the byline where he looked up and picked out Glenn Middleton to present him with a simple close range finish. Ten minutes into the half the visitors had their first real chance, Benedikt Waren played the ball over the top of the Rangers defence to send Brynjolfur Willumsson racing to the right hand angle of the box where Aidan McAdams came racing from goal to make the save.

Rangers were soon back on attack and when Glenn Middleton played in Stephen Kelly inside the right side of the penalty area he blazed over from a good position. Midway through the half Rangers grabbed a third goal, Myles Beerman broke forward from left back, he passed to Zak Rudden on the edge of the box and he neat back heel flick returned the ball for the full back to shoot past the keeper.

Rangers next chance came when Stephen Kelly’s superb pass inside the right back allowed Serge Atakayi to break into the box but Elias Olafsson stood up to make the save. With the game in the final quarter-hour only a great Aidan McAdams point-blank save prevented a goal for the visitors, Thorbergur Steinarsson crossed from the right hand byline to find Gabriel Stefansson arriving at the back post with the Rangers keeper blocking the header with his legs.

The scoring was completed with seven minutes remaining, when a cross from the right was headed to the left hand angle of the box Stephen Kelly curled a shot beyond the keeper and into the far top corner of the net .
