Development Side Beat Cowdenbeath

Rangers Development side recorded a comfortable win over Cowdenbeath first team at Auchenhowie tonight. The second division side whose game against Stenhousemuir at the weekend was postponed providing the opposition in tonight’s friendly.

The first chance of the match came when Jamie Barjonas was fouled and Jordan Thompson stepped up to hit a thirty yard free-kick just wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Cowdenbeath replied with an attack into the right side of the box and from the shot Liam Kelly dived to his left to save.

Rangers took the lead just before the twenty-minute mark with a superb individual goal. Aaron Nemane in possession wide on the right cut inside leaving a couple of defenders in his wake before curling a shot beyond the keeper. Ten minutes before the break Matthew Shiels switched play from the left to Ryan Hardie on the right hand angle of the box, he cut inside before forcing a save from the keeper.

Rangers doubled their lead less than five minutes later, Jamie Barjonas played the ball forward to Ryan Hardie and when he took on a defender on the edge of the box the ball broke kindly for the striker to shoot past the keeper. Within a minute Kyle Bradley played a one-two with Ryan Hardie on the right side of the box and his shot from the right hand angle forced the keeper to tip over.

On the stroke of half-time Ryan Hardie robbed a defender on the edge of the box before shooting just wide.

On the hour mark a superb Jordan Thompson pass from wide left picked out Ryan Hardie inside the box and only a brave save at the striker’s feet prevented a third goal. The next chance came for the visitors with an attack on the right, when the ball was passed inside the shot forced a save from Liam Kelly low to his right.

Rangers came close with a Jamie Barjonas free-kick right on the edge of the box but the ball was fired just wide of the keeper’s right hand post. The scoring was completed as the game approached the final quarter-hour, Zak Rudden’s pass sending Andy Dallas racing clear to continue into the box and calmly slot the ball past the keeper.
