Rangers 8 Queen’s Park 0

Rangers 17’s hit eight in a comfortable win over Queen’s Park in tonight’s Glasgow Cup Sectional tie at Auchenhowie. There was only three minutes on the clock when Dapo Mebude raced on to a Murray Miller pass and was barged in the back while in the act of shooting and the referee pointed to the spot. He stepped up to send the ball to the keeper’s left as he dived right. Four minutes later Zac Butterworth played the ball forward to Kieran McKechnie who’s superb turn took him clear of a defender and into the box to shoot past the keeper.

Ten minutes before the break Dapo Mebude chased a ball into the left side of the penalty area where he was brought down, he changed sides with his spot kick but his shot lacked conviction and Kobe Barber saved to his right. Rangers third goal followed a few minutes later, Dapo Mebude combined with Josh McPake to create a shooting opportunity for the former which was blocked, the ball ran to Kieran McKechnie who beat the keeper with the aid of a deflection.

Like the first half Rangers started on the front foot after the break and added to their tally after only three minutes, Zac Butterworth attacked the left hand byline and from his low cross Matty Yates netted at the back post. Two minutes later an almost carbon copy but on the right produced a fifth, Josh McPake getting to the right hand byline and from his centre Matty Yates spinning on the edge of the six yard box to fire past the keeper.

The tally reached six with the half only ten minutes old, Kai Kennedy’s quick free kick released Zack Butterworth on the left and his cross was diverted past the keeper by Luke Main for an own goal. Ten minutes later Matty Yates dispossessed a defender and broke into the box, his shot beat the keeper but rebounded of the keeper’s right hand post.

The visitor’s then rallied and came close on a couple of occasions, Michael Ruth intercepted Nicky Hogarth’s attempted pass and his chip bounced off the face of the crossbar. Within two minutes Mainza Mutenge’s pass sent Josh Black through but he was denied when Nicky Hogarth dived to his right to save.

Rangers then created a superb seventh with a quarter-hour remaining, it was created with a passing move involving Ciaran Dickson, Ben Williamson and Kai Kennedy who’s cross from the left saw Matty Yates nip ahead of the keeper to knock the ball into the net. Within a few minutes Kobe Barber raced from goal to clear a through ball but it went straight to Ben Williamson who found the net from around twenty-five yards.

Rangers continued to create chances and Ciaran Dickson combined with Ben Williamson to set up a twenty-five yarder from Matty Yates that the keeper tipped over. The keeper was soon called into action again, Nathan Patterson hit the byline on the right and from his cutback Ciaran Dickson forced the keeper to dive to his left to turn the ball wide. The final chance came from a flowing move that ended with Matty Yates getting on the end of John Balde’s cross from the left  and the keeper saving low to his right.
