16’s Close With A Win

Motherwell 0 Rangers 2

Rangers Under 16’s finished their season with a win over Motherwell at Braidhurst High School last night. Under 18 Grant Nelson got another forty-five minutes under his belt in his comeback from a long layoff.

The first half was competitive with clear-cut chances being restricted with both sides limited to long-range efforts that were high or wide. The closest effort came ten minutes before the break when Josh McPake cut in from the right before passing to Izhaak Ahmed who’s shot from around twenty-five yards was just too high.

Half-Time:- Motherwell 0 Rangers 0

Five minutes into the second half Motherwell broke through on the right side of Rangers penalty area and the shot had Nicky Hogarth stretching to tip over. Three minutes later Rangers took the lead, Ben Williamson crossed from the right and Niyah Joseph placed a superb cushioned header back across the keeper and into the net.

Just after the hour mark the home side had a long-range effort from left of centre that had Nicky Hogarth diving low to his left to save. As the game entered the final quarter-hour Rangers doubled their lead, from a free-kick right of centre and on the edge of the box Owen McGinty curled the ball round the wall and it slipped through the keeper’s hands and into the net.
