Rangers 2 Motherwell 1

Rangers Under 20’s brought their Development League season to a close with a win against Motherwell at Ibrox this morning. The game saw a debut at this level for another couple of Under 17’s and the long-awaited comeback at this level for Grant Nelson who played the final ten minutes.

Rangers had an early chance when a slack pass allowed Serge Atakayi to break into the penalty area but he shot wide of Ollie Pain’s left hand post. Rangers took the lead on twenty-one minutes, Josh Jeffries played the ball to Amin Abaradan wide on the left, he cut inside before curling a shot beyond Ollie Pain and inside the far post.

Motherwell replied when Adam Livingstone fed Jack Hastie on the left, he cut inside before shooting from distance which Robbie McCrorie held under his crossbar. Motherwell equalised eight minutes before the break from the penalty spot, Ross McLean broke into the right side of the penalty area where he was brought down by Jason Krones with Jack Hastie converting the penalty.

Just before the break Jack Hastie played a one-two with James McFadden before shooting from the edge of the box that had Robbie McCrorie diving to his left to parry. When the ball was crossed back into the box from Alfredo Agyeman on the right it fell for Jack Hastie at the back post who was again denied by Robbie McCrorie at close range.

Motherwell had an early chance after the break when the ball was played to Alfredo Agyeman inside the box, he cut inside Kyle Bradley but Robbie McCrorie blocked the shot with his legs. Rangers capitalised by taking the lead within a minute, Jordan Gibson chased a Jason Krones ball down the left and got there right on the byline, he looked up and picked out Josh Jeffries arriving unmarked to shoot past the keeper.

A slack pass out of defence from Jason Krones was pounced on by James McFadden who’s ball into the penalty area broke to Alfredo Agyeman who was again denied by the legs of Robbie McCrorie. Rangers broke quickly on seventy-two minutes through Serge Atakayi, he played the ball to Amin Abaradan on his right but he shot wide of the far post when a pass to an unmarked colleague may have been the better option.

Rangers had a let off a couple of minutes later, from a long ball Andy Dallas attempted header back to Robbie McCrorie was way too short and Jack Hastie lobbed the advancing keeper but the ball bounced off the face of the crossbar and clear. Motherwell’s final chance to share the spoils came five minutes later, Tom Fry cut in from the left with Robbie McCrorie getting down to his left to parry the shot, Ross McLean followed up but his effort hit the outside of the post and went wide.
