Fight Back Secures Win For 20’s

May 1, 2017

St.Mirren 2 Rangers 3

Trailing 2-0 at half-time a superb second half fight back saw Rangers score three times to secure the three points. With St.Mirren late in opening the gates the game had kicked off as the spectators were allowed in, I just was emerging from the exit in time to see Robbie McCrorie react to turn a shot over the crossbar.

Rangers responded with a good Jordan Gibson run down the left from his low cross Amin Abardan’s diving header was blocked by the Chris Henry’s foot, when the ball was delivered back into the box he knocked the ball into the net but was flagged for offside. Within two minutes the home side took the lead, Kyle Bradley’s pass across the back was a bit short and the Lewis McLear won the challenge with Jason Krones, he continued into the right side of the box before squaring for Ryan Watters to shoot past Robbie McCrorie.

Rangers came close on the half-hour mark with a Billy Gilmour thirty yarder that was just too high. Five minutes later a free-kick wide on the left was played short by Billy Gilmour to Andy Dallas who laid it back for Max Ashmore to cross into the box and Jason Krones headed just wide of the far post. Saints doubled their lead six minutes before the break with a well worked goal. The ball was passed out wide to Luke Barclay his cross into the box was chested down by Kalvin Orsi for Ryan Watters to shoot past Robbie McCrorie.

Half-Time:- St.Mirren 2 Rangers 0

Rangers got back into the match in the opening minute of the second half when Jordan Gibson went past Mark Morrison who brought him down inside the left side of the penalty area, Max Ashmore stepped up to squeeze his shot past Chris Henry and inside his left hand post. On the hour mark Rangers drew level, Andy Dallas chased a ball down the right and robbed Andrew McDonald before cutting into the penalty area and shooting across the keeper into the net.

Midway through the half Billy Gilmour knocked the ball on at the right side of the box to Serge Atakayi who’s shot forced a save from  Chris Henry at his near post. Rangers took a deserved lead with nine minutes remaining, Andy Dallas took a quick throw to send Jordan Gibson to the left hand byline, he went past a defender and fired the ball across the face of goal, beyond the far post Jamie Barjonas knocked the ball back into the centre where Serge Atakayi hooked the ball past Chris Henry.

Saints had one last chance to rescue a point when Ben Cameron got to the right hand byline, his cross found the Luke Barclayarriving in the left side of the penalty and he headed goalwards with Danny Finlayson heading from the line.
