Injuries Prove Costly For Youths

Rangers 2 Aberdeen 2

When Jordan Houston became the fourth Rangers player to leave the field through injury it meant the Ibrox youngsters had to play out the last eight minutes with ten men. Leading 2-1 they were unable to hold on for a win with Aberdeen equalising a couple of minutes later.

The visitor’s had an early chance when a Scott Wright solo run took him past three defenders and deep into the penalty area but he was denied by a fine Robbie McCrorie save to turn the ball over. In the next attack Frank Ross broke unchallenged into the right side of the box and forced Robbie McCrorie to save at his near post.

Rangers replied when Billy Gilmour passed to Liam Burt wide of the right, he cut inside and forced a save from Robbie Mutch low to his right. Rangers threatened again when Ross Lyon skipped past Joe McPherson on the left hand byline before shooting across goal and wide of the far post.

Good play on the left involving Ross Lyon, Myles Beerman and Billy Gilmour created a shooting chance for Max Ashmore when the ball was moved inside and his effort had Robbie Mutch stretching to tip over. When the game reached the twenty-seventh minute Rangers were dealt a double blow. A pass from Aaron Norris sent Scott Wright breaking into the penalty area where he fired past Robbie McCrorie. In their efforts to prevent the goal both Aidan Wilson and Ross McCrorie sustained injuries, where as the former was able to continue Ross McCrorie was stretchered off to be replaced by Kyle Bradley.

As the forty-five minute mark approached Jack Thomson limped off to be replaced by Jordan Gibson.Rangers first chance in injury time came when Liam Burt won a header on halfway and the ball broke to Jordan Gibson who continued to the edge of the box before shooting straight at Robbie Mutch. There was still time for Aberdeen to threaten when Connor McLennan won the ball on the left side of the penalty area before shooting across goal and wide.

Rangers had an early chance after the break when Liam Burt latched on to a slack Harlain Mbayo pass, he burst into the box where his shot was blocked by the legs of Robbie Mutch, Jordan Gibson followed up to crack the rebound of the keepers right hand post and the Dons defence scrambled clear. Another slip from Harlain Mbayo a couple of minutes later allowed Billy Gilmour to send Zak Rudden clear on the right side of the penalty area but he shot across goal and wide.
